Imogen's Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Pink, therapy is really helping, but I still believe that establishing healthier habits is the key. You can spend a lot of time navel-gazing and reflecting, but real change comes with action. Re oversized portions, I haven't visited the US yet, but I'm prepared to be shocked

Amy, just checked the statistics to answer your question. Half of adult women in Poland is overweight or obese, and 2/3 of adult men. I'd say that the "overweight" range you see on the street is broad - some people have a few extra kilos, some guys have a beer belly, a few individuals are noticeably overweight, but it's pretty rare to see a truly obese person. Young people and kids are mostly slim. Polish cities encourage cycling, we have an extensive network of public transport (also in smaller towns), and walks are a popular pastime.

Definitely too much cake on Saturday. Sunday was pretty sane, with some peanut butter ice cream as a treat which I shared with J. Still, I seem to prefer seconds and extra meals rather than sweets or snacks these days.

Absolutely establishing healthier habits is key. I have come to realize that more than ever. I am surprised by the overweight statistics in Poland! Somehow I imagine every other country as way healthier than the US.

Interesting point about the overweight numbers. It’s really increasing all across Europe. But I was honestly shocked when we were in Orlando… Walmart even had special scooters for people with severe obesity—and not just one, but a whole row of them!
We were also amazed by how huge the snack packages were. We were there around Halloween, so I get the candy overload, but still—our European XL size was only half the size of the ones in the stores over there!

Food poisoning derailed my efforts to stick to any routine this week. I am still recovering, so my eating is all over the place - mostly nibbling on buttered rolls and bananas. Looking forward to getting back to the three meals structure.
