Lou's Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Lou's Daily Check In

Post by smithld » Mon Jan 19, 2015 7:11 am

Today's an S day. I am recommitted to No S this week!! I lost nearly 30 pounds in 5 months with No S & regular exercise, then fell off the wagon in October and have gained 24 pounds back😟 I know this system works!! I will be posting a regular check-in for accountability.

Thanks eschano! If I lost weight last time, I will lose it again!! Today-day #2, was a success!! Feeling a little under the weather but still went out for a 30 min walk & stuck to my plan. My only mod is a small snack in the afternoon if needed.

I am new here. I read your thread and I am looking forward to plugging alongside. Is walking all you did before to lose? Exercise is evil to me....just kidding. I am doing a little DDP Yoga. I want to do the bare minimum, that yields success of course. You know, the best bang for your buck kind of thing. I would love to hear what has worked for you.

Hi Lovedby2! For me, I lose way faster when I exercise regularly. The weeks I would do 30-60 min, 5-6 days per week I would lose about 2 pounds per week. I chose walking 3-4 days per week. BUT I walk up a huge hill and wear a heart rate monitor and keep my HR between 65-85% of max. I can't get my heart working hard enough by walking on flat ground. 2 days per week I was doing a Leslie Sansone video that involves indoor walking and strength exercises.
The weeks I didn't get much activity I would lose about 1/2 pound. Everyone is different. I have a goal of becoming fit by strengthening my heart as well as losing weight, so I really need to exercise to accomplish this. I've seen people lose weight without exercising, it just depends on your personal goals.
The nice thing about No S is that it doesn't require all the mental energy that diets do, so you have more time to focus on exercise. It works for me and I love it!

Thanks everyone for the support. I really appreciate it!! 2 green weeks under my belt and had pretty good S days this weekend too. Monday's are a little difficult for me because I tend to crave sweets and am tempted to extend my weekend until Tues. But, I know I can do this and will continue to check in for accountability. Thanks!!
