Stuart's Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Day 2 - SUCCESS

I have been eating 5-6 times per day for a few years now, a habit I learned from following the Body-for-Life/Eating-for-Life body building program. Eating only 3 times per day (no Snacks) is the most challenging part of No S for me so far. I am very hungry by dinner time. I did lose the most fat and became the most lean on this program but only stuck with it for about 8 months. My first goal is get to the lowest I did when on this program.

I have followed other diets before with little or no Sweets so that it is not too hard for me. I have not drunk soda for years. I have drunk some artificially sweetened drinks a few times a week. Missed those too the first couple of days.

I have to watch Seconds too. I admit that I often put more food on my plate after I have finished my first plate. My wife kept telling me I was doing this for years!

Day 5 - SUCCESS

Day 6 - SUCCESS

Day 7 - SUCCESS

Day 8 - SUCCESS

Day 9 - SUCCESS

Day 10 - S Day

Day 11 - S Day

Day 12 - FAILURE A little too much to eat and three and a half drinks at dinner last night.

I travel for work and dinners with colleagues are proving the most challenging for me. We often share at least some dishes. Not sure how to keep to No Seconds (one physical plate) in these scenarios.

Walking (something I have been doing for 18 months but I am now doing more) and Shovelglove are going great.

Pretty good run, Stuart! Glad shovelglove and urban ranger are going well, too.

As for plate sharing pressure, some suggestions:

1) feign lack of hunger as an excuse (hard, but perversely satisfying)

2) virtual plate (an advanced move, but this is a tricky situation)

3) fear not the doggy bag (works well in conjunction with the above)

I am not worthy. You're a machine, dude!

Great stuff and very inspirational. Keep away from the snack bowl at Christmas!
