Becky's Daily Check In

Monday, April 14 is day 1 for me. I'm a 47 year old woman, 5'8" and about 290 lbs.

I'm a full-time student at Missouri State University, and part-time LPN at a local nursing home. I've been over 200 lbs. since I was pregnant with my first child 27 years ago. My goal is to have a 1-2 lbs. weekly loss down to about 160-170 eventually.

I read the article in Women's World and then found the website tonight. Snacking is a really big problem for me, and I love sweets, so I think I may be in for a rough week, but one day at a time...here goes!

Day 2 was a total success :D

Today, Day 3, I didn't have a perfect day -- ate a couple of cookies after dinner tonight -- but still ate much less than "Pre-Nos diet" day.

Becky,

Are you working on your RN? I'm one of those although I don't practice any more.

NoS has been wonderful to keep me from snacking.

Good Luck!

Today's choices were not good. Hope to do better tomorrow.

Actually going to school for a teaching degree. I've been an LPN for 23 years, and feel kind of burned out on nursing. I work week-ends at a local nursing home to have gas and spending money for school. I'll be about 50 when I get my teaching degree and hope to have another 20 years or so for my new career. Not sure what age kids I want to teach -- thinking about Reading Specialist. (more schooling... )

Well, I definitely had S days...

I want to work really hard this week, so when I get to Saturday morning and step on the scale for my weekly weighing, I will see a little bit of weight off.

How 'bout you, how are things going?

SUCCESS!! Day 9 on the program.

B: Egg mcmuffin, Coffee

L: 2 string cheeses, grapes, diet soda

Meeting at work, unsweetened tea

Diet limeade

D: Chicken quesadilla, decaf coffee, water -- ate out with my daughter -- the quesadilla was huge and filled an entire dinner plate. I ate about half of it and brought the rest home for tomorrow's lunch.

Had to stop off at Walmart for a couple things after class tonight, the candies were calling out to me at every turn, but I kept chanting NO-S No-S No-S and held them at bay!

Day 10 Success!
Daughter had Nat. Honor Soc. induction this evening, and we went to McDonald's for supper afterwards.

B: Oatmeal with handful dried cherries, coffee

L: 2 small slices leftover quesadilla, 2 chicken tenders (marinated in ginger sesame salad dressing and broiled) 1/2 cup yogurt, diet lipton tea

D: McDonalds double cheeseburger, 1/2 of a small order of fries, water

When we came home I was thinking "I want something sweet!"-- old habits die hard. DD said "let's share some peanut M - M's." I turned them down and took my water to the computer to get away from the kitchen!

Hey Becky,

Looks like you are doing SO WELL!!!

I know that feeling of "I'd like something sweet." The sweetest thing is knowing that I can have what I want on the weekend without the guilt! I guess we have just conditioned ourselves to want that little bit of extra-at least I have.

Congrats on the honors for your daughter.

I'm so glad we all found this healthy and sensible and easy way of eating!

Day 11, not a total success -- I hate calling the day a failure because of one slip-up.

B: Egg sandwich, coffee

L: Broiled chicken tender, small serving mac and cheese, green beans, water

D: Ham, parsley potatoes, buttered asparagus, water, 2 snickerdoodles
(DD wanted to bake cookies when she got home from school...who wants stale cookies on Saturday when there are fresh from the oven cookies on a cooling rack just a few feet away from the dinner table?) :(

But anyway, at least I stopped with 2, and I didn't have any S things all day until then...

Day 13, my S day was a Success!

I read the book today, ready to get started with N days again on Monday. Looking for lots of green days ahead!

Oh, and I stepped on the scale this morning, about 3 lbs. lost. I'm really not surprised, because even though I've had a number of RED days, they were still a drastic reduction in my pre-NoS eating.

Good Job!!! I had a good weekend. I DID have seconds...Sunday night. I felt over-full and miserable after....I'm learning. Otherwise, other than a couple of cookies, I was in total control. I'm back on the no-s wagon for the week days and I'm fine with that.
I DID get weighed....Saturday morning. I went from 173.8 to 169.8 in 2 weeks. I'm very pleased because it was totally painless. I would like to get to 155. I don't care how long it takes. I'm in this for the long haul.

Has it really been over a week since I posted to this thread?!

Well, I have had nothing but bad to report -- I have been eating like there is no tomorrow.

Had kind of an "Aha!" moment yesterday in the grocery store with my daughter, 16. She was asking me to buy apples, which she hardly ever eats, and then said she was craving applesauce, which she doesn't even LIKE! I told her she must be needing some nutrient and her body is crying out for apples to satisfy that need.

I began to give thought to how my cravings have been out of control lately, and remembered something I read by a nutritionist who said that obesity is a form of malnutrition. These wild cravings and overeating binges are because I NEED something. (Now I realize there are emotional reasons I overeat, but I'm just talking about physical reasons right now.)

So this morning, I resolved that this would be a green day. I got out my multi-vitamin/mineral supplement and put a vitamin in each day of my pill planner along with my blood pressure medication. Water is the next thing I addressed by making sure I am drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated today. (So if my cravings are caused in part by some vitamin/mineral deficiency, I've got that covered; and I won't be confusing thirst with hunger.) Finally, since I don't want to eat JUNK (this is my logic speaking) I am planning sensible, satisfying meals today.

Breakfast was 2 eggs and a piece of toast, with a cup of coffee.
Lunch was a luncheon size plate of pasta with tomato sauce and 3 meatballs.
Dinner will be beef enchilada with steamed asparagus on the side and fresh strawberries.

And now that I'm all psyched up for N days, I'm facing 2 S days. :? Would it be ok to make tomorrow an N day and just have an S day on Sunday?

I would say...stick with both days being S days. That's what Reinhard says. It is better to create the Habit correctly right off the bat.
I started No S on a Friday, and still did the weekend as Sesses, it worked out fine. Now that I've been at it for 29 days, I see a pattern of less S being usued on S days...and things getting easier and more stable on N days.

Becycan,
Remember, Reinhard doesn't REQUIRE anyone to have snacks, sweets, OR seconds on S days.
He put in his draft...
No snacks, sweets, or seconds except SOMETIMES on days that begin with S.
It IS an S day,
BUT even on S days, you have the OPTION to eat just as you do on N days.
Your choice.
