NCSunshine Check-In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

NCSunshine Check-In

Post by NCSunshine » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:11 pm

I'm posting a morning check-in instead of evening since I'm feeling a bit shaky this morning. I have a busy afternoon and evening with little time for a proper dinner. My plan is to have a sandwich between appointments and NO SNACKING. Hopefully this commitment will keep me honest!

That sounds like a good plan! It's great to plan ahead when there are those crazy days so that you can space everything accordingly. I have really long days on Monday (breakfast at 8, then off work at 9 and no dinner till 9:30), so I have to be a little creative.

Good luck - you can do it!

Thanks for your encouragement. Lets both try for No Snacks Today and see how we do. I'll remember this if I'm tempted. I think we'll both make it!

Good Luck

It's funny because today is not usually a late-work day for me, but I am covering for someone else so it will be. I am trying to hold off until at least 1 for lunch, but 2 would be even better. That will help me make it until 9:30 tonight ...

Hi NCSunshine,

You posted on my check-in about the guilt factor and how it doesn't apply to No-S. I hadn't thought about it from that angle before but it makes sense.

Thanks!
