Hotmailmamma's Check In -Newbie

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Hotmailmamma's Check In -Newbie

Post by hotmailmamma » Fri Jun 19, 2009 5:34 pm

New to the site. Printed the No S Diet from an online site I found almost a year ago. Never read it. Just tucked it into a binder with countless of things printed and forgot about it. Stumbled on it 6 days ago, and it was like "Eureka!" Suddenly everything made sense, and all the diets, calorie counting, Fad diets, Gimmicks, you name it, disappeared. More than that, I felt as if someone had removed a tremendous amount of pressure!

Started implementing the No S rules the very next day and haven't looked back.
This is actually day 5 for me. Doing well. Have not weighed since day one, but feel no pressure too.

Just in a very short time I have developed a different way of thinking for myself:

1). I'm not denying myself snacks, sweets or seconds, I'm just DELAYING myself. (until the S days, if I still want it)
2). If I don't get a chance to eat a certain food or taste a certain food, its OKAY! (mostly during group eating) It's not like I've never tasted it, or will never taste it again.
3). Food can save my life or kill me. It's my choice!

These are just a few ways of thinking I have developed over the past week. I've written them down and put them in strategic places in my home and work environment.

So, I'm moving forward, looking forward to day 6!
:)
Day 1
B: 2 poached eggs w/crumbled bacon, 1 pc wheat toast
L: Green beans & peppers, grilled chicken, cole slaw, Water
D: Subway sandwich w/o mayo on flat bread, water
E: 60 aerobic workout - BodyJam!

Day2
B: 2 poached eggs w/crumbled bacon, 1 pc wheat toast
L: Steamed yellow squash, onions, & spinach, Grilled chicken breast, water
D: Subway Sandwich without mayo, diet soda (needed some caffiene)
E: None - too tired after work

Day3
B: 1 Fast Food chicken biscuit plain, Water (in a hurry)
L: 1/2 Subway footlong without mayo (Luv Subway), baked chips water
D: 2nd 1/2 of a Subway footlong w/o mayo, baked chips, diet soda.
E: 60 minute BodyPump weight class.

Day4
B: 1 Fast Food bacon, egg & hashbrown breakfast wrap & water
L: Subway Flatbread sandwich w/o mayo Baked chips & diet soda
D:Subway Sandwich w/o mayo & water

Day 5
B: (slept in- office closed for vacation)
L: Homemade 6" Boboli pizza w/Mozzarella, red, green & yellow bell pepper, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms w/2 tbsp tomato sauce & Water

Going to be creative for dinner today since I have the time to be! Plan to do a dinner salad.

Thanks for the welcome emd1212!

Yes! No S is very refreshing! I don't really look at it as a diet, but a little lifestyle change that reap BIG rewards! I have trouble exercising and dieting together. But, with No S, it's Nooooo problem! LOL!

To complete my initial post:

Day 5
D: Favorite salad - Romaine lettuce, chopped rotisserie chicken, Feta cheese crumbles, dried cranberries, walnut pieces and Lite, Rasberry Vinaigrette dressing.
Water to drink.

The food part is easy. I consider knowing what to eat a byproduct of YEARS of trying every diet plan I could afford, and some I couldn't.

The No S way, makes it easy to eat what's right for you, if you know still have the foods you like in a few days, instead of after some "phase" or level of a particular diet. That's no way to live! The No S way is livable. Keeping it simple!

Today, I had to tell myself that this was an S day! I still didn't go for the bag of cookies. Instead I had a piece of fruit with my granola cereal for breakfast. That was all the sweet I needed for the day. No snacks either!

Food today as follows:

B: Granola cereal & milk, Gala apple water
L: Hmde sandwich w/mayo and corned beef Lettuce and tomato, water
D: Restaurant: Grueben sandwich w/green beans and water to drink. No dessert.

Well, I think I will focus more on my portions next week. I have a lot of weight to lose, and a sluggish metabolism, so it will take a bit more to get the weight loss rolling a little faster. I'm building muscle too, so that will play a part how fast or how much I lose. Still haven't weighed, and won't for another week or two. Will look into this HabitCal thing on the discussion board.

Today was an S day. Father's Day dinner. Had dessert without guilt. Cooked the dinner myself, so I could remain in control.

B: 2 strips bacon, 1/2 belgian waffle w/2 tbsp syrup, coffee without sugar. Half & Half only.
L: No lunch. Breakfast was late.
D: Hmde meatloaf, sauteed green beans w/mushrooms, peppers, pecans. Mashed potatoes.
Dessert: sponge cake cup w/whole strawberries, lite whipped cream, pureed strawberry sauce.

Well, that was my day. No guilt. Back to exercise tomorrow! Looking forward to it.!

It's been a week and the stress wondering what to eat is gone, however the temptation has returned. I stayed at the doctor's office way too long, got stuck in traffic and had to miss my Monday evening work out scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Stopped at a gas station and caved in to the temptation of chocolate chip cookies. I feel bad. I can do one of 2 things: I can either count this as an S day, since on Saturday I ate like it was a Non S day, or I can mark this on my HabitCal I just created. I'm not sure which one I'm going to do.

I do know one thing though.....that chocolate chip cookie did not taste good at all.

Other than the cookie today:
B: Pan sausage sandwich 2 slice wheat bread (Hmde), Water
L: Chocolate Chip Cookie
D: 2 pc grilled chicken, bread, salas.

I'll know shortly how I want to count today's slip up.
:)

Welcome! There's a saying on these boards, and I'm not sure who coined it, but it's *mark it and move on!* Don't dwell on the mess-up, just learn from it and keep going. You've been doing great so far!

Hi there and welcome. I have been here since April 28th - my daily check in as well as the June challenge chronicles my journey thus far.

I agree with everything you have posted - Eureka indeed.

What a freeing feeling to find this plan and this bulletin board.

To your health,

SR

Thanks mimi! You are so right. I decided to Mark it and Move on. I'm gonna change my signature also. It turns out that chocolate is NOT a woman's best friend! LOL!

Check my HabitCal 6/26 & 27 are already marked as S days because I will be out of town those days at a Family Reunion. The day of traveling to and from will be Non-S days (Th & Sun). Already checked ahead of time. The hotel where I'm staying has a gym, pool, hot tub and sauna. No problem with getting my exercise.

Another successful day. :) Boring though, because I didn't exercise, and with work being closed these last 5 days, I've been somewhat complacent. I need routine. I work so much and have to deal with the kids during the school year until Summers, and more than one day off from work at home is somewhat confusing.

Anyway, check in time:
B: coffee w/Half & Half (No breakfast - slept in, and lab appointment around 11AM)
L: Subway sandwich w/no mayo, spicy mustard and all veggies & diet soda.
D: Grilled chicken breast, spinach, unsweet tea.
E: None. Just did not feel like it. Must change this after I return from Houston.

Although I don't always jot it down, I do drink water throughout the day to keep hunger at bay and to keep the kidney's functioning well!

Onward and forward. :)

MIA for a couple of days after returning from vacation. Picked up a nasty stomach virus while in Texas. :( The long drive home did not help at all. I seem to be on the mend now.

Will start gradually with the No S rules again. I will divide my breakfast and lunch into two meals because I'm having to slowly increase my food intake until my stomach returns to normal. Water will be in abundance though.

Here's to regaining my momentum! :D

Okay! Today started off really well! I decreased my portions on my meals. I was so hungry in between! I'm sorry, but today was the most difficult. Mostly because of the a new stresser at work, that developed today. Fell off the wagon so to speak after 3:00 p.m. Had a piece of chicken after dinner (like 1 1/2 after) Anyway, menu went like this:

B: Scrambled egg whites, 1 slice wheat toast & coffee w/half & half
L: 1/2 of a 6inch subway w/diet soda
D: Other half of 6 inch subway w/ water
E: Too tired today. Stayed up late last night.

Tomorrow is another day. Another chance to do better.

Ordered the No S Diet book a week ago. It arrived in the mail today. Started reading it right away. I think I'm going to seek some help for the psychological aspect of losing weight. I NEED IT! :|

I restarted No-S yesterday and I just wanted to wish you continued success. Portion control is something I need to work on as well but for now no snacking and no sweets is my focus.

Menu went as follows:

B: Homemade breakfast Shake 370 cal.
L: 2 oz pulled pork on 1/2 sandwich bun w/pickles & 1Tbsp BBQ sauce

You're doing well. A waist measurement will quickly identify if the gain was muscle or otherwise. Keep it up! :)
