So, I moderately partook of what today's lunch had to offer: cheese cake

Hello, Over43. Just visiting, and wanted to say Hey.

Hi Queenie, thanks for stoppping in.

I have not posted for a week? I lost weight over the three day weekend, bueno. Yesterday was a Fail, I had one bite left of a sweet roll when I noticed I had eaten the other 14/15ths of it.

Wing Chun last night. I am still riding the Airdyne regularly and I really noticed the crossover effect last evening. I got tired, but I did not have to stop and sit down. That is progress.

Well, so far today, a breakfast burrito and a large cup of joe from Maverick Convenience Stores. I added some sugar and half and half.

See you all in a bit.

So what did you do about that final bite of the sweet roll?

Congrats on the weekend weight loss.

I threw it out!

However, yesterday was a bit of a flop. Fail

Exercise: shoveled snow, rode the Airdyne.

I am at 206 this morning. So, even though I am making poor food choices, I am not eating enough of it to stop some weight loss. Plus, I think the switch from iso-metrics to riding the Airdyne has made a big difference.

Doing good today. Eggs and bacon for breakfast with a handful of pistachios.

Probably the same for lunch since that is what I have in the fridge at work.

Dinner is pizza. (I am going to be at a team building activity at someone's cabin...and although I appreciate the generosity of the person who's cabin I will be at, I don't want to go.)

Airdyne this afternoon before I leave.

See you all Monday.

Binged last evening. Which is what it is. I am losing waist size though. I think the Airdyne is saving me.

I am able to button my Dickies without having to lift my stomach in.

I totaled the car, so I do not believe I will be making it to Wing Chun tonight.

Totaled the car??! You ok?

I am OK. Hit my head on the door frame, but the headache passed. I had to walk to a cabin, about a mile, are you ready for this? Up hill in the snow. Thank goodness I had been riding the Airdyne, it was a lot less difficult than it could have been.

Thanks for the concern.

Edit: Speaking of the Airdyne, I was going through my records (I keep them in a notebook with a pencil, no Fitbit...), the work load I was able to maintain, while riding the Airdyne last night, was my best effort since 2010.

I was slightly below 205 lbs today. Progress, slow but sure.

Thanks for the posts. The car is still in the shop. I am still at 205.

However, I am still riding the Airdyne and pushing 30 Cooper Points a week. I just get on it and watch a movie on my Kindle.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Thanks Lori. We got the car back yesterday.

I am hovering at 205. I saw my doc yesterday. He about feel backwards when he saw I was up twenty pounds. When I told him I have lost ten he was even more bewildered.

I have stamina from the Airdyne, I just need to be able to break that 205 barrier. I thought I was bad off at 185.

It is a new week. Batter up!

This morning: two breakfast sandwiches.

I am hoping, as usual, a bigger breakfast means less hunger throughout the rest of the day.

Saturday I rode 11 miles on my Airdyne. The mileage is slowly creeping up during the week. I still do not want to go over the two hours a week time allotment. I have a tenancy to "burnout" when I start exercising to much.

So, I will check back in tonight before I start watching "Fortitude". I am watching a lot more television from the Common Wealth (Foyle's War, Death in Paradise, Wallander, Fortitude, Doc Martin). I just find it is better TV than we have in the states.

Yesterday saw me snacking on peach rings before dinner, but over all my food intake was much less. I rode the Airdyne for 30 minutes and picked up 11.6 Cooper Points. That is the best ride I have had in a couple of years. 8.8 miles.

Starting new today, big breakfast, etc.

See you tomorrow.

That was a nasty 3 day cold. It did suppress my appetite though.

I weighed 203 this morning. I did not "exercise" this last weekend, but I did yard work half the day Saturday. I will be frank, yard work is easier when I ride the Airdyne on a regular basis.

So far today, on track.

I am trying now to lose weight sans water tablets. So, my weight has jumped back up, but not as high as it has previously been. One issue with not taking the water tablets is I have a hard time breathing. This is not as bad as it has been in the past. I can only thank the Airdyne for that. Speaking of which, I rode the Airdyne 40 minutes last evening, 11.2 miles. 11.6 Cooper Aerobic Points. Wing Chun this evening.

Anyway, bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning with Udi's rice flower bread for toast.

I am thinking I might go vegetarian for awhile. We'll see.

You all take care.

April 4, 2016

Breakfast: Rice, cantaloupe, cucumber, avocado, drizzled with lime juice.

Exercise: Soloflex full body workout, Tababtas on the Airdyne.

Two things: 1) I have been eating a plant based diet ala John McDougall, and others. Today it has really hit me. I am staying pretty close to the "lounge". I want to keep at this, but I need to up the rice, cut back on the fruit and all "raw" smoothies. 2) I have been able to up my workout intensity, but this morning I might have over done it. I have started adding strength training (via my Soloflex). This morning, after my workout, I added six cycles of Tabata. I might rue that decision. I am already sore.

S Day

I am on vacation. Went to see Batman v. Superman. We splurged on a couple of Cokes an popcorn...and Charleston Chews.

Success!

Breakfast: Hash browns, eggs, sausage...I only ate about half of what I fixed, made the GSD happy.

Lunch: Rice noodles topped with grilled chicken and peanut sauce

Dinner: Left over rice noodles, steak, salad w/bleu cheese.

Exercise: 40 minutes of the Airdyne. I needed to try to work out the lactic acid from Monday's workout. Less stiff and sore today.

Will report back this evening.

April 13, 2016

I have been "on and off". My weight dipped below 200 again this morning. So, I am definitely in a downward trend even though I have not been No S-ing "religiously".

I have had to change fitness strategy. I have been having epic back pain. So, for the time being, I shelved the Airdyne and strength training (both of which seem to be aggravating the situation). This morning, for the first time in 6 years, I went swimming. I can honestly say, thank goodness I have not been in a shipwreck. I wouldn't last long.

I think I might do this for as long as the pool is available to me. I have to say, 25 yards is a lot farther in the water than on land.

Everyone have a great day.

April 26, 2016

Hello Everyone,

Stopped taking my water tablets and my weight jumped again. Bummer. I have been eating more, again, but not enough to precipitate the sudden jump in weight.

I am into my third week of swimming. I am able to swim a full lap now. I out in about 650 yards this morning in 40 minutes. Not Mark Spitz, and I had to use the kick board part of the time. but, I am improving.

Wing Chun this evening.

Hovering at 200.

Swimming 3-4 days a week. My legs are in much better condition than when I was riding the Airdyne. Less kickboard, more backstroke and Old English backstroke. (As I have heard it called. The crawl still works me.) I swam four straight laps doing the back stroke and the OEBS.

Eating less. My stomach has been a tad sour for awhile. I am experimenting (again) with the FODMAP.

Well, you all have a good day.

A busy weekend eating wise. I was busy eating.

I had been eating pretty strict FODMAP. Saturday I ate doughnuts, bread, yada, yada. I felt like crap yesterday and this morning.

Swimming last Saturday. Pretty good.

Failure yesterday.

I had a doughnut wth dinner. Mostly, however, I was alright.

Swam this morning for 45 minutes. I wish I could say I sawm as well, and was as tan, as Mark Spitz, but I rank in niether category.

Had my physical (wish I could say yealy, but it has been awhile) on Friday. I have not had blood work done yet. BP was a bit high (148/90). However, the doc was impressed it was only that high on as little BP medicine as I take. I got the latex glove treatment. Good to go there. I did request a Camel when it was over. My doc thought that was funny.

No lumps or bumps. Lungs sounded great. heart rate in the 60s, oxygen absorption in the high 90s. Go me.

I owe it all to my half arsed attempt at No S dieting.

Everyone have a good day.

Blood work came back. I am a bit high on cholestorol and triglycerids. My doc told me I was eating to much sugar. I gave him a smile and let him know I had been.

Yesterday was a Fail, unfortunately.

I did swim for 40 minutes. I have no idea how many yards. I would like to think a 1000. But I always lose track of my laps. I bought some training fins, but it hurts my back when I use them. Not great.

So, this morning: a breakfast burrito (home made) with bacon on the side.

Lunch is planned as a chef salad.

Dinner? I am going to a symphony tonight so I am not sure what dinner will be.

Weight was 201 ths morning. (Lbs. not Kilos). That is still 14 pounds lost.

Blood work came back:

Cholesterol 165
Triglycerides 300

Everything else good. Doc told me to drink fewer Cokes the tris will come down.

Swimming tomorrow. To add to that resting heart rate 51, BP 135/79, oxygen % 95.

I also have the shingles.

Still swimming. Still drinking Coke and eating powdered doughnuts.

The cross over fitness from swimming to Wing Chun is very noticable. Much better than the Airdyne.

See you all later.

I have been mulling some life ideas over lately. One of those ideas is to "un-plug". The internet, forums, Facebook, email, yada, yada.

So, I am unplugging. I might plug back in on occassion, but I have come to realize I really do not need the net. I cut my Facebook friend list by half recently, and have reduced it again.

I guess you can say, I have grown up again, and am flying the internet coop.

Reinhard, I have a Kindle copy, and paper copy of The No S Diet, and that will be my dietary guide from now on to remind me where I should be headed. Thank you for that.

Good luck to you all and keep at it.

Well, I tried un-plugging. I have done pretty well. Now I am back.

I hope you have all been successful. I have been holding steady, but beginning to waffle, in my mind, about things like Keto diets, Low Carb, should I start Slim Fast, so that is the reason I have returned.

Yesterday, and Tuesday were a success. So far, so good today. I swam steadily until last week, and now this week the pool I swim in (college pool), is down for maintenance. That's all good. I have been riding the Airdyne and going to Wing Chun classes.

I have, for the first time in several summers, been taking sun baths. Not more than 20-30 minutes every other day. It feels good, and I hope fortifying me for the coming winter. Usually my property affords me some privacy. Last week I had the headphones on, listening to The Who, and the cattle rancher who's property is next to mine pulled up on his four wheeler. I did not hear him.Poor guy, had to see this...

Anyway, tomorrow. I hope.

Today was an S Day, breakfast was an omlette, hash browns, and a slice of toast.

Lunch was a diet Coke, half a Big Mac and a few fries.

Dinner I ate some potato and beef hash and a salad with two glasses of milk.

Jan 10/Jan 11 Success!

Jan 10 I had eggs in each of my three meals.

Breakfast: egg burrito

Lunch: four eggs fried and two slices of bacon

Dinner: Scrambled eggs and hass browns.

Jan 11

Meal 1: roast beef and fried eggs sandwich with cheese
Meal 2: sauted chicken on rice with peanut and sriracha sauce and a mandarin orange, Activia

Exercise: Bullworker/isometrics both days.

Edit: I devoured peanuts last night. I think I was doing the "sleep eating" that I do when I take an Ambien.

I did swim laps for 45 minutes this moring (Jan 12). I might have swam longer but I had the late arrivals staring at me, waiting for a lap. I did weigh this morning however, and the Christmas weight is coming off.

well, I have been 197 for a week. That is 4-6 pounds lighter. Pants fit, and my stomach is less pronounced. Life is magical when you cut the sweets, with the other strategies.

At the MD's last week BP was 210/120. I think I heard him poop. and when I told him I could eat salt because he was giving me water tablets, let me just say, do not do that at home kids. After his very maroon face turned to a lesser shade of red he told me to cut the sweets.

Still under 200. This last weekend was a cluster...Decided Burger King was a treat. My body did not. I treated the dog as well. I do not think he appreciated it later either.

I have been doing a lot of isometrics. I do believe I am going to make a run at the Soloflex. My problem is I have adult ADHD (which I have always had, I am just an adult now...) and I start one program, see another and start doing that. No one can say I do not mix my workouts up

Lunch was steak, 1/2 a potato, and a salad. I kind of over-did the condiments. Butter/sour cream, bleu cheese dressing, Heinz 57. But, I devoured just one steak.

Dinner was Dominoes thin crust, sausage and mushroom. I also had four wings, and just water. (I was out of Fresca.)

Last evening I put a "classic" Soloflex workout. (You will know what that is if you remember the old info-mercials from the last 80's-early 90's.) Last night's exercise inluded squats. My legs are sore as heck this morning. It is muscle soreness, not joint pain, and that is good. I ended up doing: Roman chair sit ups one set, incline press three sets, behind the neck pull down three sets, military press three sets, tricep extension, three sets, squats three sets. I think next time this workout cycles through I am going to swap tricep extension with curls. I get enough tricep work on the incline and military presses.

See you all tomorrow. Which will be the body curl, pull ups (yeah right), dips, the Haney shrug, calf raises, and deadlifts (not heavy...).

Is that similar to the old Bowflex? After working out for years with weights, I bought a bowflex back in '05 to get the wife over her fear of weights. So after decades of weights, I(yea me) tore my rotator cuff doing behind the neck presses on the bowflex. Threw it out the next spring, but kept the bench.

Is it similar? Both had alternative options to either free weights, or weight stacks, in regards to resistance. I have never used a Bowflex, but I do know they use "power rod" resistance. Soloflex uses elastimeric resistance, or more recently, back to shock ring resistance. The type of shock ring they use now is the original resistance from the original Buck Steel model that came out in 1978.

Thursday

Success!

Breakfast: Egg burrito
Lunch: Cup of Noodles, half a bag of Garandetto' snacks
Dinner: A big chef salad with bleu cheese dressing

I have put my workout in already this morning. I feel good.

I went for a private intro lesson on Russian kettlebells on Monday...with a Russian champion. He had me do only one kettlebell exercise, but put me through some other stuff I assumed are ways he assesses someone. He said I need work on my legs and back. I have been feeling it from neck to heels all week, but just the muscles.

But the cost I think is not in my budget. I don't have a Soloflex but lots of other stuff.

Keep up the good work.

You can pick a Soloflex up on Craig's List for $50 on a good day. I gave my kettlebells to the high school football team. They just obliterated my back and hip (right hip).

There were so many Soloflex and Bowflex sold in the 80's and 90's that you almost cannot give them away. I have had my Soloflex since 1987. They have always been built like the proverbial tank. One of my grandkids might end up inheriting it. However, Soloflex seems to be having a bit of a renaissance. I do know they have sold over a million plus and made inventor and still owner Jerry Wilson very comfortable. He found a niche at the right time.

I weighed this morning and had a jump in weight. I imagine it is water weight. I am going to change exercise strategy. I think I am going to start skipping rope and using the heavy bag. I will do that for a month and see what the result is. And then adapt from there.

See everyone tonight.

How long do you skip rope for at a time?

Posted: Fri Apr 07, 2017 1:13 pm
by Over43
Well, right now I use a 2 lbs. heavy rope. I do 4-5 sets of 50 skips. When I am in "jump rope shape" I use a beaded Life-Line rope (which I just bought a new one since I gave the old one to my daughter...) and work my way up to 1200 skips.

April 6th was a Failure. and when I fail, I fail epic-lly.

Holy moly. I once got up to three minutes, but never beyond. I'm amazed that some people, not even boxers, jump for 30 minutes. I'd be glad to get to 10. Working on rounds of 30-60 seconds now. Your tenacity is inspiring.

I have not jumped, since my last post. Some workouts are my Bullworker, some are my Soloflex.

Some days are Green, some are Red. My weight is about 199-200 Still 12-15 pounds les than pre-Christmas, I think.

Time to re-focus.

I have been reading Eat-Stop Eat. I prefer No S. And I disagree with the author of Eat-Stop-Eat. Americans (including Canada and the Caribbean, they are Norther Americans as well..., Europeans, Latin Americans, etc.) are not overweight because they eat 3 meals a day, they are overweight because they eat three meals a day, plus, soda, snacks, seconds, HFCS, etc.

This morning, instead of one big breakfast burrito, I had two smaller ones. They both fit nicely on a plate. I am washing them down with a Diet Coke.

Onto tomorrow!

May 2, 2017

Yesterday was brilliant!

Sausage and egg sandwish for breakfast

Sausage and eggs for lunch

Beef and gravy over basmati rice/salad for dinner.

No reflux while sleeping.

I watched Sugar: The Bitter Truth with Robert Lustig yesterday afternoon with my speech class. Obviously Reinard was a genius with rule number 3.

Bullworker workout yesterday and today. Feeling like I need to start riding the Airdyne.

See you all later.

Regarding Reinhard's genius: I know! And without reading any diet or nutrition books! I'd bet his collaborator on the book found most of the research.

It is all good. Reinhard had the basics down before the book.

Yesterday was a cluster...you get it. I did well until about 8:00 PM, as I sat and watched Mar de Plastico on Netflix, I started shoveling huckleberry ice cream into my pie hole. Then a Twinkie sounded good. So, I ate two of those.

Today is a new day.

See you all tomorrow.

Sounds like my Monday, 1st day of the new month. I did great all day, it was 11:00 p.m. and I was hungry, so I dialed up a glass of milk, with swiss cheese and rolled the cheese slice(s) into a rolled up slice of dried beef.

Milk is good!

Went to Moscow (Idaho) for my daughter's graduate school, graduation. (Anthropology, with an emphasis in Nez Perce studies...). I ate a lot (particularly yesterday eating my way through Montana...)

Still sub-200. I walked a lot through the town. Quite hilly. Which was good for my legs, and not a lot of leg soreness after. So, apparently the new Airdyne rides are helping.

See you later.

Congrats to daughter. What's next for her? Anthro is so fascinating.

Montana could net a fair amount of eating. Was it fun?

She is newly employed with the Nez Perce as part of their climate change impact department. She must stand out a little. Blonde with blue eyes. good for her, a lot of her MA was done with the Nez Perce.

I have been taking fewer gabatentin, hurt like poo, but eat less. I am under 200 hudnred again.

What a great position for your daughter. Degrees in anthro don't always lead to jobs. She's pulled it off, and to all our benefit, IMHO.

Congrats on getting to onederland.

I implored her not to go into anthropology. I pushed law school. What do I know?

Soloflex workout later. I have been eating, a lot.

To continue from last evening's abbreviated post: After my daughter sent me pictures of our vacation to Canada, and pictures do not lie (generally), I look terrible. It was one of those experiences you have that wake you up. Like that lady had in Flannery O'Connor's "Revelation".

Of course there is more to weight loss than personal aesthetics, and in my case blood work should be one of those motivators, but bottom line, I look like poo.

Anyway, enough of the self-pity. (But really, I look like poo...)

I have been lifting, I just find using the Soloflex at home is more convenient than going to the university to swim.

So far today, breakfast was scrambled eggs/sausage/cheese with grapefruit on the side, and a Fresca. Usually I make breakfast big, and this one was.

Lunch should be a "chef's" salad with Bleu Cheese dressing.

Dinner, I am going to give making a Thai dish w/rice a try.

See you tomorrow.
