Day 1- SUCCESS - no funny stuff

I am also a veterinarian, although I no longer practice due to a chronic illness. Currently am in law school, hoping to find a way to make that more compatible with my physical limitations. Being a vet inevitably for me meant long hours.

What state are you in? I live in California, went to UC Davis.

I have been doing no S for a week and I love it, although I am still figuring out how I may need to tweak it to make it work for me.

Welcome to the board. Although I am also new here, I have found it to be very supportive and amazingly informative.

Day 2 - SUCCESS

Not sure about funny stuff tho... I had popcorn with lunch and didn't want chicken juice on it, so I put it into a small bowl that I then put onto the plate. I did the same with my fruit salad at supper. Hopefully this is okay...???

@greyhairedrunner - funny, i am not currently practicing due to a horse related head/brain injury i suffered late 2004. at this point not sure if i should just tell ppl i am retired, as several specialists have indicated that return to work is highly unlikely, if not impossible. law would have been my second choice - how exciting! do you miss practice? i am now essentially a SAHM whose child attends school all day and after my accident i had to place all my horses and most of my dogs, so i get horribly bored when i feel well enough to think about it :( i'm in ontario, canada and graduated from the ontario veterinary college at the university of guelph. anyway, enough rambling on about me! :wink: great meeting you here and thank you very much for the welcome! :D

Welcome, petvet! Sorry to be so late in my welcome, but I've been gardening.

Regarding your question about Sat. If you put it on a plate, if it's part of your meal and if it isn't a sweet, it's o.k. That's the beauty of No S!

Happy Shrinking!

thanks for the welcome mrsj! :)

i'm very jealous... while you've been gardening, i've been shovelling snow! :x at least i can count that toward my shovelgloving eh?

and thank you for the plating clarification!

(i'm going to get the colours right this time! :oops: )

yesterday - FAILURE

i ate breakfast, had a busy morning, missed lunch, had dinner with my son and then was so hungry by 2000 that i went to bed! but then we had a power failure, the alarm system went off & woke me up, i couldn't get back to sleep and snacked for two hours til the power came back on...

i'm going to fiddle around with the timing of my meals. i'm not really hungry in the AM and when i was working i always ate my first meal post ops, around 1100, didn't snack much during the day, ate dinner around 1630 and then a late, light lunch around 2030-2130. i'm going to go back to that, as it will allow me to have brunch and dinner with my son on the weekends and i will plate up a late, light lunch after he is in bed. i'll join him for breakfast with my coffee!

hopefully this change will keep the nightime snack monster at bay! :evil:

today = SUCCESS

Brunch - ham & cheese sandwich + carrots + no sugar jello pudding
Dinner - same sandwich (lazy/uninspired) + caesar salad
Late Lunch - leftover caesar salad + one half english muffin/'just peanuts' pb/no sugar jam

- doing fine with 9 inch plate
- finding it v difficult not to eat 'something' while i am preparing meals... seems as soon as i see/smell the food i start salivating like crazy and am *hungry*
- have made a 'doggie bag' container in fridge for any leftovers from my son's plate... all the 'bites' i used to eat! (of course, i don't have leftovers on my plate :P ) i often cook for our dogs, so don't feel badly giving them things left on his plate, while i hate like hell to throw anything away!

how about chewing some gum while you're cooking. That seems to help me.

Wednesday = SUCCESS

Thursday & Friday, I was suffering from severe headache pain (chronic complication post head/brain injury) and unable to most anything. I take meds almost every day, but on the really bad days it's all I can do to open my eyes and crawl out of bed to help my son with the things he needs to do. I don't eat much on these days, so I'm not wasting them as S-Days but I will make them yellow on my HabitCal. You'd think I'd lose weight from hardly eating when in such pain, but I seem to make up for it on the day(s) following! Hopefully NoS will help to keep me on track when I feel human again...

Today & tomorrow will be my regular S Days, so will check in again on Monday.

@sincitylulu - great idea re: gum! i'm going to try that today. thanks! :)

Monday = SUCCESS

B=bagel w peanut butter, banana, coffee w skim milk/splenda
L= mcdonald's grilled chicken wrap + yogurt parfait + coffee with skim milk/splenda
D=pasta w vegie sauce, cucumbers w greek dressing, fruit salad, V8 fusion + club soda (my version of H2Orange)

i was hungry this AM, so i had breakfast with my son at 0730AM, then had a later lunch around 1430 (after his swimming lesson) and then we had a later dinner together at 1800 (dentist appointment today and he couldn't eat right away after fluoride treatment). i have been keeping myself busy tonight and staying out of the kitchen - i'll make his lunch tomorrow AM...

going to try to wean myself off the no cal sugar substitutes... only time i was successful with this was when i was pregnant, but i am determined. emptied house of diet iced tea/soda and stocked up on V8 fusion (fruit + vegie juices) and club soda, and make myself glasses that are approx 20%V8-80%club soda and drink that, plus water when i want something cold. coffee i can drink black no problem, but to get my milk/calcium in, i need to add something sweet to the mug - i'm going to switch to 1 tsp real sugar with my cafe au lait, rather then splenda and see how that goes... am hoping that if i incorporate a daily yogurt + Ca supplements i can do one AM cafe au lait and go back to black coffee for the remainder of my 'hot drinks'... i don't want to rev up my sweet tooth, as i have been doing really well on the 'no sweets' part of the plan.

Tuesday = Failure

my GF came through town and took me out for lunch... thought i would be okay, as i handled macdonalds really well on monday (forgetting that i don't actually like macdonalds of course! :lol: ), but once she ordered dessert i was sunk :(

however, rather then change it into an S day (and an excuse to eat all day) i got back on track for my dinner and late lunch, eating less then normal for both meals... i was pleased with this ability to rebound after failure, as most often in the past, this would have triggered a day or two eating binge

Br=pasta w chicken/vegies/alfredo sauce, coffee + DESSERT
D=fruit smoothie (homemade w banana, berries, yogurt, skim milk - quite thick and def a food!), raw carrots
LL=popcorn, leftover fruit smoothie (sm glass)

Wednesday = SUCCESS

Br= chicken back+leg, raw carrots, popcorn, cafe au lait
D=chicken leg, 1/2 whole wheat pita, caesar salad, v8 fusion + club soda
LL= whole grain pretzels, fruit smoothie, H2O

been reading a few check in logs here that mentioned 'mastering leptin' and 'eat stop eat', so i spent a few minutes reading about those this AM

consequently have decided that i am going to eat Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, at approx 7AM, 12PM and 5PM, and although i will incorporate sweets/seconds on weekends, i will stay away from the snacks and after dinner eating... not ready to incorporate any ESE at this point, but if i haven't lost any weight after a vanilla no-s month of may, then i may add that in later on as well

:idea: am also going now to sign up for the Team Vanilla May Challenge

first day of Team Vanilla May Challenge - S Day SUCCESS, including mods

walked outside today, with my son for company, and it was great! :D
we did a nature trail for approx 30 minutes of walking, with 30 minutes of looking for bugs, birds, animal tracks, etc... when we talked about our favourite part of the day, as we do everyday at dinner, he picked the nature walk *over and above* our Wii Lego Star Wars challenge :shock: needless to say, we'll be doing the nature walk again next week!

:D :D :D

was away for a few days this past week... did very well on the road, but was treated to an unexpected dinner out and had both an appetizer and a dessert :( marked it and moved on, but i really need to stay away from nice restaurants - or save them for S days! :)

posting daily in the Vanilla May Challenge, so will probably only check in here once a week or so
