Tobiasmom's No-S Pregnancy....

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Day 5

Post by tobiasmom » Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:58 am

Day 5: SUCCESS!

What a great feeling to have a GREEN week! I do have a really bad sore throat tonight, though....ugh! Heading to bed in a few minutes and hoping I can sleep it off.

I just feel excellent mentally. I am glad I don't have to weigh at the doc for two more weeks so it won't affect me mentally this early. I really struggle with scale expectations and scale obsession. But I do need to be reasonable. I mean I AM pregnant so I probably won't be losing weight until I give birth! All that matters to me right now is following the vanilla NO-S rules and creating that habit for years to come!

Day 6

Post by tobiasmom » Sat Oct 27, 2012 11:31 pm

Day 6: S DAY!

Three meals today. 4 miniature Halloween candy bars were my S today. Not even that great. I went out with a friend today and had my favorite shrimp relleno with cilantro rice and avocado....yum! I had half for lunch and the leftovers for dinner. It's amazing how much more I control I feel without all the sugar in my system. I'm actually super full tonight....so I must have ate more than normal. That's what's so lovely about S days!

Day 7

Post by tobiasmom » Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:45 pm

Day 7: S DAY

I had a rather large lunch meal at Red Robin with a couple more mini candy bars. I was so full from lunch that I just had a piece of French bread with butter for dinner. Happy to be back to three normal plates today with NO sugar!! Gotta get the Halloween candy out of sight, though!

Hi! Good to see you are still around. Looks like you're doing well! Congrats! I'm back and starting a 21 day challenge tomorrow. Could use some tips and encouragement as I gained about 7 pounds when I abandoned No S!

Wow, tobiasmom, what a sane weekend.

Isn't it strange how some S treats (like candy bars) don't actually taste that great? It's like our tastebuds can actually register flavors now that they are not flooded with sweets all the time. Cheap sweets are starting to taste really shabby to me.

Day 9: SUCCESS!

The habit is beginning to form. I had originally planned today as an S day, but Im not so sure now. The few pieces of Halloween candy I had this weekend weren't even that great. If I have the opportunity for a REAL dessert, I might take it.

Happy Halloween, All! We are decorating our trunk for a trunk or treat at church. Hubby built a wooden pumpkin bean bag toss. Should be fun!

Day 11

Post by tobiasmom » Fri Nov 02, 2012 2:12 am

Day 11: SUCCESS!

Today was a tiny bit harder. I really wanted to eat an apple this evening while watching tv. My little boy was having one and it sounded crunchy and juicy. So...I will have one with breakfast or lunch tomorrow, and I WILL enjoy it.

35 weeks pregnant. My tummy is huge. I do feel like I've really gotten ahold of my eating lately. Still working on one day at a time. Baby boy is doing great. My blood pressure is holding up. My family arrived and is helping me out a lot. We have two more weeks of homeschool and then will take a six-week break. Time is flying!!

Day 13: S DAY!
B: cereal with milk
L: waffle with butter and syrup, decaf coffee
D: spaghetti with meatballs, two slices garlic bread, two servings salad with thousand island dressing

I had planned to have pie with ice cream....but just way too full from the extra bread and salad at dinner. Crazy!! The baby is just taking up sooooo much room.

Day 19: SUCCESS!

36 weeks pregnant.....

Today was crazy. I spent six hours at the hospital with contractions and high blood pressure. Labs were normal. I'm not in labor for now. My body is just getting ready. I'm bummed my pressure is up. I have been doing everything in my power to keep it down with good eating! Oh, well. Blood pressure problems are highly genetic during the pregnancies of women in my family. Gonna just hold on and stick to my No-S!!

I join eschano in awe that you are doing so well when you are at the end of your pregnancy. My eating in the final few weeks (and the first weeks of nursing) left a lot to be desired. You're amazing!

Day 20: S DAY

B: one slice apple coffee cake with one cup black coffee
S: apple
L: two slices cheese pizza, one small slice bday cake (it was just so-so), one cup of sprite (Tobias bday party!!)
D: one slice pepperoni pizza leftover, salad with Italian dressing

When I write it down it doesn't look like I had too much, but I definitely feel overfull and some heartburn. Glad for an N day tomorrow!! I just like the regimen of 3 meals much better.

Day 21: SUCCESS

I made it 21 days!! Yay. Feels awesome. What's the next step? Keep on going! Can't wait for 221 days!! This is such freedom!

I did Wednesday and Saturday S days this week. Not sure what I think of splitting them up. On one hand it helps to have a bit more control than two days in a row....but it was a bit of a bummer to not have an S day on Sunday. So I will have to decide by Wednesday if I'm gonna split them or not....

Ready for another green week?

Day 22: SUCCESS

Another green day! I was very tempted to have seconds of dinner tonight. My mom is here, and she made pork chops with gravy and mashed potatoes and sweet corn. Sooooo good. One plate is enough, though. My grandma also made a homemade pecan pie. My, oh, my! They are killin me. But I will have a slice on my Wednesday S day!

Day 23: FAILURE

But I have a good excuse! I was told today baby boy will probably be coming in the next week. My 24 hour urine showed signs of beginning pre E. I had a snickers bar this afternoon at the hospital...and then a piece of grandma's homemade pecan pie tonight. Totally worth it! I had three meals otherwise.

Mark it and move on!

Post by tobiasmom » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:23 pm

I had a red rest of the week, but it's been a rather trying time lately. Besides the broken arm....which we are still cast-less and waiting on an ortho consult...the boy woke up throwing up with a 103 fever yesterday. Still has a fever this morning with a sore throat. Add to that the fact that I am super pregnant and waddling and tired.....well, this, too, shall pass!! Just doing my best. I do think the sane three meals would be best for me today....so that I have one less thing in my life out of control. Gonna start with a good breakfast and work from there!

Have a great day, Everybody!

Post by tobiasmom » Sat Nov 24, 2012 2:22 pm

So I think baby is going to be here shortly. I went in with some contractions yesterday to find out I am dilated 4cm. Still cramping, but it's manageable so they sent me home. Blood pressure has been good this week.

I will let ya know. Hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! We had a nice time as a family.

Nothing yet. Contractions come and go. I have an appt tomorrow so that could be the day BUT tomorrow is Tobias's birthday. Wouldn't that be crazy??

I haven't had a true green day for over a week. Today is a perfectly good day to continue on. Whether I'm in labor or not, three meals is a lot less to think about. I need the sanity in the craziness right now. Tobias finally got his cast. It's a full arm cast since he broke his elbow. Yikes. It's itching him like crazy already. He turns 5 tomorrow. Cannot believe how time flies. Feeling very sentimental. I love my boy. And my other little boy coming soon!!
