Favorite kinds of music/bands?

Post by VanillaGorilla » Sun Aug 21, 2005 8:02 pm

Just curious what style(s) of music or bands everyone likes?

I like a wide variety of things, but I am mostly a rock/classic rock/metal guy.

Favorite bands or artists include:

Van Halen, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Pantera, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Tool, Dream Theater, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter and The Eagles...For starters. lol

Weird Al Yankovic is my favorite, hands down, but I've also been a Neil Diamond fan since the sixties.

Jan!!!!! I love you!!!!! Weird Al Rules!!! LOL....

Vanilla, check my screen name for a clue!
Anyway, If you really wanted to know what I like musically, I might need a few hours to compile the various stuff I'm into...

I'm with you on liking those awesome classic rockers like Sabbath and Stones... I love Blues.. Johnny Winter is great indeed... Hey his bro, Edgar ain't too shabby either! I just heard a wicked good version of Deep Purples "Highway Star" on the radio yesterday.. It kicked ass!!!!!!!
I love the Band, and of course Bob Dylan... Of course Zep!!!

I'm a huge Jazz fan and I like all types... Afro Cuban especially.. check out a killer scary good pianist named Chucho Valdes.... He is unbelievable..

I love Fusion and New Age artists..... Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra and anything by John McLaughlin... Also, pretty much anything by Miles Davis.... Dizzy Gillespie... all the Bee boppers...
Love Cannonball Adderley.....

I used to be really into Punk Rock, at the time it was actually happening
The Clash, early Elvis Costello, Ian Dury, Sex Pistols...

I love Classical too, especially Baroque composers... Mainly the king of it all, for me, is Bach...

Okay, but in Pop music, if I had to pick my absolute top three, it would be
Grateful Dead, Beatles and Bob Dylan.....
Bob and Jerry!!!!!
Whoa....

Keep on Rockin!!!

I kind of had you pegged as a Dead fan for some reason....

Edgar Winter certainly isn't a piker...Not by a longshot!

My lady just told me The Stones have announced another date for our area in January, and we're debating going. I've seen them 2 or 3 times before and it was one hell of a show. Good stuff indeed.

FREAKWITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, fine. Say I'm biased.

My all-time favorite band is probably Marillion. Lately I listen to a lot of Porcupine Tree, Ani DiFranco, System of a Down. A bunch of stuff. I'll listen to just about anything.

Anything, that is, with heart. Most pop music (no matter what genre) fails this requirement.
