Any thoughts on knee replacement surgery?

I find myself being forced to consider knee replacement surgery, one knee for sure and probably both. Family history of knee problems, joint degeneration due to chemo a few years back, and of course obesity have played havoc with my knees. I've put it off as long as I can but have been recently researching different surgeries as well as talking to people who have gone through it. Most people have positive things to say, but more than a few have talked about how painful it is as well as stories about enduring on going problems afterwards. I would really like to hear some honest and open feedback, good or bad, about this surgery. Thanks!
