A Simple Diet???

I personally like to eat "good" food. I have taught myself to cook some French fare (Thank you Ms. Child), also Thai and German food (on occassion...).

However, I was just reading a news clip concerning the 1952 Mr. Universe. He turns 100 today. He still looks muscular, and his key to longevity besides weights? He lets stress run off his back like water and he eats a "simple" diet: milk, fruits, vegetables, fish, rice and legumes.

I imiagine I could learn a bit from this fellow.

I think there is something to be said for eating simply. When you do indulge, a simple regular diet makes the special meal just that much more of an event.

I humbly suggest that Mr. 100 doesn't actually know what accounts for his longevity, although I think his ability to let stress go is one of the major ones. It certainly seemed to be a common factor in the stories of those in a popular book years ago on centenarians. By that standard, I should be dead in a week. But I'm working on it.

I don't disagree, I have read other centurians suggest what helped them live so long and I hear: two cigarettes a day, a shot of whiskey every night, fried chicken, soul food, etc.

I think genes play a big role. And less stress is probably very important.

Another thing I've read is that many who live to ripe old ages never give up the habits they learned as children. They never began eating processed convenience foods, snacking 24/7, walking more than riding and so on.

BTW, it is not a dream of mine to live to be 100. I just want to be in good condition while I'm here. So far, bad habits have not been my ticket out, but they've made the time kind of a drag.

And I'd like a little notice so that I could blow some of my savings, but not on medical bills.
