Ok, forgive me if this topic has been discussed to death, but i am wondering and a curious mind won't be silenced...or something like that... Laughing

I know there is a lot of conflicting info in the world about how much, and what kind of exercise to do...was wondering what you have all done that has worked for you..? I am really trying to work some more exercise into my daily life but i just don't have much time (some days i have more than others)....do you think that 30 minutes (at least) of cardio 4-5 days a week along with weight lifting 2-3 days a week is a good place to be?

would like opinions! Very Happy Thanks!

Hey Doula behbeh...
I say.. find several things you enjoy, like that bellydancing, walking, weight lifting.. Of couse you could always try out Yoga too! Wink
But start with a small commitment of time and just stick with it..
Use the Shovelglove increment of 14 minutes, even if it's not applied directly to doing SG...
Show the picture of Reinhard he has on NoS, to any personal trainer or health "expert" who will argue that this isn't enough time to make a difference!
It's the consistency that's key...
Good luck and just get up and do it!!!!!!! Wink
You may find that by experimenting by doing, you will find several options presenting themselves to you! Just make it a daily commitment on N days..

Peace and Love,
Cool Deb

I do try to get in a total of three hours a week of cardio and about two hours of weight lifting per week (the operative word is "try"). However, I will say that I think the best approach is to set smaller goals and try to stick with them. Oftentimes, I don't go to the gym because I dread the 45 min. - 1 hour workout; however, when I've planned on only doing 20 min., I rarely skip because I always think to myself, "Well, it's only 20 minutes." I think smaller goals = more consistency.

Also, I truly do think that 80 % of the weightloss equation is food intake. I'm not putting down the importance of exercise in terms of one's overall health, but in terms of weight loss, it's been my experience that food intake is the biggest factor. My mother only does 20 minutes of cardio six days a week, and she's about 113 lbs. (barely 5 ft). The reason her weight is so low, though, is because she has a tight rein on her eating.

In short, my advice would be to set some small goals. You can always exceed them.

Walk, walk, and walk some more. It's the most natural human movement, it's great for weight loss.

If you want to train for strength, try shovelglove (seriously - I do lots of bodyweight training and a shovelglove session is *still* a good workout).

Good luck!

Hi DC!!!

If I were you I'd try to do something everyday. And, do something you like. Just move. I wouldn't try to impose a rigid mentality. Just be gentle on yourself. Some days, you may be busy and can just squeeze in a short walk. (I walked to and from my hair appointment yesterday b/c I knew I would not have time to get to the gym. So I snuck in 40 minutes). If you like to bike ride, hop on your bike for 20 minutes. If you like to skate, skate. I don't know you, so I don't know what interests you have. I do know that if you like doing something then you will probably stick with it. I find weight lifting an enormous bore b/c I have to remember "set" "rep" "weight". Drag, I'm so not into details. But, I swear by Pilates and I've been running lately. And I try to do push ups when I can...BTW, I really like that Nike ad campaign that says "Just Do It".

P.S. Eventually your body will feel bad when you don't work out. It's like the sugar thing....with doing No S, we crave less sugar. Did we ever think we could be like that? Very Happy Very Happy
