Maigret check in
Hello No S friends! I lost a decent amount of weight on No S many, many years ago (150 lbs to 115 lbs) and kept it off. Now in my post-menopausal state I have watched pounds creep back on. A few of those pounds are (I hope) muscle, as I took up weight training because of osteopaenia and I am definitely a gym bro now (well a 5' 2" gray-haired female gym bro). But it's definitely not all muscle.
So it's time to get a bit stricter with myself, and what better than starting a daily check in right before Halloween? The only modification I've made to Vanilla No S is that I get daily exercise of some sort: a short run, a long run, upper body weights, lower body weights, pilates, or at minimum 10k steps.

Welcome back! Great that you have incorporated daily movement - I think this is the one thing that has the most positive impact on how we age.

Re: Maigret check in
Thank you WINhappy!
I see I have had my dates off by one this week.
Thursday Oct 30
Almost No S: had seconds of quiche at dinner, and discovered (again) that the second piece wasn't nearly so nice as the first piece.
Morning mid-length run before work with ladies' running group
Now that all my children are grown there is no Halloween candy around the house to tempt me.
Friday Oct 31
No S
Leg day at the gym
Saturday Nov 1
S Day & Rest Day. Had an afternoon snack (the last sliver of quiche) and a smallish piece of cream cake with family after dinner. Light gardening and normal housework, no added exercise.
Sunday Nov 2
No S
Long walk

Monday Nov 3
Almost no S: had a snack late in the evening because teenager was up and having one and I wanted to be companionable. Hmm, must re-think this logic.
mid-length morning run with running group
Other thing I know and yet re-discover constantly: if I plan exercise (other than walking) for late afternoon or evening, odds are it won't get done at all. But there is so much to do in the mornings and I have the mom instinct that to prioritize doing something for myself, when others need something done for them, is selfish.
Tuesday Nov 4
No S. Long walk and upper body weight routine at home.
Wednesday Nov 5.
No S. Long walk; planned to do Pilates but didn't.

Re: Maigret check in
Have not checked in and am still not really checking in. A nasty stomach bug swept through my school, thanks to the adorable little gremlins in the Lower School who are not yet able to refrain from putting their fingers in their noses and who went on to infect their older siblings in the Upper School, where we Old Folks try to hide from the Hot Zone which is the LS. You know what I love about summer break? Not getting sick all the time and taking forever to recover because I am no longer young and hearty.
No S: no just about anything except bananas and dry pasta, and sugar in my tea for the sake of getting some calories.
Exercise: to the bathroom and back
I'm not even going to look at the scale now that I'm feeling better because the number is going to be lower and that is not a healthy way to lose weight.

I hope you recover fully soon, Maigret. That experience sounds miserable. We're thinking of you and wishing you well! WIN

Sunday Nov 16
S-day: ate normally plus a brownie for dessert.
Longish walk in the morning; felt good but tiring as walks usually aren't.
Monday Nov 17
No S
Morning run with friend. We did intervals the first half, then walked the rest when my body decided running was all over for today.

Hi Maigret, Both days sound like you did really well. Good job on walking when your body decided it was done running for the day (I love how you phrased that—very respectful to your physical well-being). Take care, WIN

Thanks, WIN.
Tuesday Nov. 18
No S mostly but seconds on dinner; still catching up from a week of illness under-eating.
Went out to lunch with baby girl (okay, grown-up baby girl) and she walked me over to the gym. This was my first day back since the Stomach Bug of Death and I kept the reps and the weights pretty low. Legs felt tired but good.
Wednesday Nov. 19
No S. Feel entirely better.
Lots of walking. Legs a bit sore from yesterday. Will try to run again tomorrow morning before work.

Re: Maigret check in
Hi Maigret, I'm so pleased you're feeling fully recovered. Great work on No S and getting back into your exercise routine. The mental image of your daughter walking you over to your gym made me grin. Have a great day! WIN
