Hi folks,
Happy first day of spring! Reinhard, I want to thank you for your "elegant" solution to the bedevilling problem of eating.
I started No S'ing on Christmas Day. The fact that I started on a special day seemed to me a good omen. During the 3 months since, I would give myself a grade of 85% for observance. My bad news is, I put on 9 pounds. My good news is, I am a lot less "complicated" (hung up) over food now. So I am remembering that Rome wasn't built in a day, and I am continuing to do No S.
Thank you all for your encouraging and informative posts.
Sincerely,
~Heidi~

Wow... sorry (and surprised) about the gain, Heidi. 85% compliance could use improvement... but I'd think it would at least buy you maintenance. I guess it's hard to quantify these things.
But I'm glad you're less hung up on food and that you think you can work with this structure. I would be very surprised if you up your compliance just a bit and don't see long term results.
Have you tried marking off a calendar with green/yellow/red for success/except S day/failure for each day? I find that's motivationally useful plus it gives you a more precise number for "compliance."
After discussing it for ages, I'm actually making real progress on an electronic version of a habit calendar... I should have at least a demo available by the end of the month.

I am new here, so thank you for responding.
Greetings, all:
BTW, the subject line of my first post should have read; "Hello everyone. I just joined" I musta deleted it somehow.
Reinhard, thank you for responding. I WAS disappointed by the weight gain, but not surprised.
I have had horrible insomnia for decades, and a doctor suggested I eat a high starch diet so that I would produce more seratonin. My sleep patterns did improve while I was on his diet--but I couldn't STAY on it. My blood sugar was going wild, and I was visibly losing lean muscle. Long story short, my body was predisposed to gain. Now however, I am hopefully building good habits, exercising more and otherwise being patient with myself.
Thank for the idea of marking the days of the calendar green/yellow/red to represent Success/except S day/Failure. I will try that.
So long for now. ~Heidi~
