The daily snail

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

I have set up four habits on habitcal: breakfast, threeMeals, tenMinuteWalkOrLift, noSdiet. I will be checking in here as to how they are going.

It was a good day for me today. Didn't exercise but ate breakfast, ate three meals and was no s compliant. Didn't really expect to do so well as I was planning not to worry about being no s compliant today, but just focus on eating breakfast and eating three meals.

Decided to change my exercise habitcal to 10 minutes of any kind of exercise. I was too tired to walk or do weights Friday night but would have done some stretching/light yoga if that would have counted so today I decided I will count it.

Didn't exercise today. I did a lot of physical activity so I feel very satisfied even though I will count it as a red day for that habit.

It feels a little odd that I am not feeling discouraged since I have had four days in a row of reds in all four categories. However, I have added the idea of no stupidity and that has influenced my behavior so even though I haven't been green I have, nevertheless, been more moderate.

whew! That's a lot to keep track of! Have you been tracking these things previously?

When I first started, I tried to keep up with 2, and then decided that just tracking my S days was enough. I just recently added an exercise Habitcal back in. We'll see how it goes this year!

Best wishes to you as you pursue your plans, and hope you have some green days soon :-).

Thanks for the encouraging words Merry.

The tracking seems pretty easy to me and two of the four things are components of no s.

Hang in there! I have been tracking multiple habits since July this year and even though I've had many red days, I've slowly improved over time. You can do this!
