I was pretty excited when I stumbled on this website. No S sounds so sane! So far I've been successful for 1.5 days, which has really surprised me since I am a snackaholic and haven't gone more than 6 hours without a snack in years

.
One thing I'm worried about... This week I'm at home on vacation, which is nice because I can make exactly what I want to eat, but next week we're going to my in-laws, who love to feed us and who generally serve calorie dense but unsatisfying meals. I always feel hungry there, even if I am snacking! Any tips on surviving the minefield of family gatherings?

It may be a bit simplistic, but I like simplistic. Politely decline the snacks and load up on meals. Target the foods that are better and also more filling. Mashed potato is a filler. Any meat or protein is a filler also. They will pad out your stomach and leave you feeling more full and satisfied. It's probably more practical to just do the best damage control you can for the week rather then get too worried about perfect No S form.

Thanks, Bushranger!
Acutally, it's not dinner that I'm worried about (besides the fact that it tends to be in 3 courses) (I figure I'll have the appitiser and a smallish serving of the main course and say no to the desert.) But my in-laws are Dutch and that means that both breakfast and lunch consists of two slices of "whole wheat" with a thin slice of ham or cheese on each. My in-laws tend to supplement this with a slice of pie at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock and cheese and crackers at 5 pm. One reason I'm always hungry when I visit them is that the sandwitches are just not filling enough (i estimate 300 calories for each meal) and the cake sends my bloodsugar on a rollercoaster ride.
I'm all for saying no to the pie, but I do have a hard time waiting till evening to eat something substantial

Just have the sandwich and ask if they can please get some watermelon or salad or something non processed and have that with your sandwich.
I'm sure they'll oblige you. If not, see if you can go to the market and buy whatever fresh fruit there is, and just carry it with you to have with meals instead of pie.
I'm guessing from what they eat everyday, that they may be overweight themselves.
Don't make a fuss, but stand your ground and explain that you are going to decline on the pie unless it's an S day.
Welcome here and good luck!
ps.. hahah funny profile name
