I would post this on the thread you started but it has gotten so long and I really wanted you to get this info . . . just in case you're interested.
I have those pesky cysts, as well. My dr. did recommend some medication but I didnt' want to try that. In lieu of that, she said for me to google pcos diet b/c there are a couple of good books written by ob/gyn/endo and focus on eating well to hopefully inhibit more cyst growth, level off the insulin, and help PCOSers with weight control. Two books were pretty highly recommended but the only one I could find right then and there w/o ordering was the Insulin Resistance Diet. I dont' think it matters much which you get b/c I think they approach from the same angle.
I cannot say if it works with the cysts b/c i haven't been rechecked yet. I can say that the minute I started doing that, I started sleeping which was something I hadn't done in years. I have no idea if that's pcos related or not. When I do that in conjunction with No S, the weight comes right off.
This is what I do:
I like No S b/c it makes sense and b/c I lose weight or maintain but dont' gain.
I use a 9 inch plate instead of a regular plate -- always on N days, mostly on S days.
When I'm sticking with it, and I'm just getting back to it, I balance all my meals the way they say in the book. You don't have to eliminate anything but you have to balance protein with some carbs.
I also like to make sure that my plates include a good variety. If I just have one thing, say spaghetti and sauce, I'm not satisfied for long. If I have a small amount of spaghetti, topped with sauce, a veggie, a wedge of fine cheese, and a protein, all in small enough amounts to stay to one plate, I am far more satisfied for far longer.
So, for what it's worth, in a similar situation, I find this helpful.
