3b, 4b, and 5b

I spent most of my weekend cooking, which translated to very little computer time. I'm okay with that, but it does mean that I have some catching up to do! Friday, March 9, 2007: SUCCESS :: Breakfast :: 1 serving high-fiber cereal 1 ounce walnuts 1/4 cup quick oats, dry 1/2 cup soymilk 2 tsp 100% ma...

Day 2b

Thursday, March 8, 2007: SUCCESS I spent today really looking forward to my S Days. I think one of my treats won't actully be a treat in the strictest sense; I'm looking forward to meals that require a little bit more preparation than my usual weeknight fare. :: Breakfast :: Standard breakfast :: Lu...

Weighing In

Something just occurred to me: it's Thursday, and my weight doesn't matter. Why is this a big deal? Back in the bad old days, I weighed myself once a week, on Thursdays (probably because long, long ago, that's when my Weight Watchers weigh-in happened). Then, I became more interested in the overall ...

Food Processor

I have been spending a lot of time chopping fresh vegetables for soups, stews and the like, and I'm thinking of buying a food processor. I've never owned a food processor before, and I'm not really sure what to look for. Does anyone have one that they love (or hate)? Any makes and models to look for...

Day 1b

Wednesday, March 7, 2007: SUCCESS Thanks for the support, Annie and Reinhard. Yesterday's failure wasn't awful, it's true. But I'm still counting it as a failure. I know that I'll get my routine in order. You're right, Reinhard; stress is a permanent fixture in life. I know that getting over my stre...

Maybe someday I'll feel more qualified to eat in "waves" but for now....uh uh. I completely agree. I was thrust into a serious eating-in-waves scenario last night when the dinner plan suddenly changed from home cookin' to kaiten sushi . It was too much virtual plating for my little mind to handle.

I have never been diagnosed with an eating disorder, but my eating has been "disordered" for about fourteen years: compulsive overeating turned in obsessive dieting, laxative abuse, and restriction (under 600 calories per day). My gereral pattern, however, is to binge. I have only been following No ...

Day 8

Tuesday, March 6, 2007: This is getting tough. My life filled with the usual frustrations right now (job, money, family, time-management), and I'm really feeling the pull to eat. I know intellectually that eating never relieves any of those tired, stressed-out feelings (in fact, it frequently create...

Day 7

Monday, March 5, 2007: SUCCESS After my idiot-esque S-Days, my belly is a little out of whack. I'm hoping that today's good behavior (read: high fiber content) will get things back in order. People take their diets very personally. And by "diets" I mean "general way of eating," not just "eating for weight-reduction." Sometimes people take what is meant as a kind suggestion as an insult instead.

Virtual Plating

This is such a newbie question, but after seeing the phrase used several times around here, I'm curious about "virtual plating." Is it what you do when you decide that your soup and half-sandwich would fit on the same single plate (but you're not actually going to put them on the same plate, because...

Days 4-6

Thanks for the welcome, Jan! Yep, you got me - very nearly vegan (for almost a year now), save the jar of honey in my pantry. I have some check-in catching up to do. I think it's fine to make something an "S" if it's a problem for you. Diet s oda is an "S" for me, because it functions as a sweet for me, and drinking it tends to make me want a snack. However, if you get a lot of enjoyment out of having drinks with dinner, you might consider just lowering the ceil...

Day 3

Thursday, March 1, 2007: SUCCESS For some reason, today felt much easier than the past couple of days have. I'm finding that I'm "rediscovering hunger" buy not snacking constantly, and, as a result, I'm enjoying my food more. I think tasting the sauce for dinner while I was cooking it might count as...

I got on the low-carb bandwagon early (before Atkins gained popularity, actually). But I know exactly what you mean about carbs. Everything I read said "carbs are evil," and I just ate it up, so to speak. It's taking me some time to adjust to eating carbs again, and not classifying foods as "good" a...

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yep, 60 lbs. gone...but through a lot of (unecessary) suffering. I'm glad to have lost that weight, but I really wish I had done it in a more sane manner. It's great to have found a way of eating to lose weight that is both effective and reasonable.

I'm new here.

Hello, everyone. I'm new to No S - and on-line forums in general (which I always want to call "fora," but that's my Latin showing) - but I'm already impressed by the simplicity of the program and the supportive community here. I've managed to lose and keep off about 60 lbs. over the course of 3 year...
