I think we snack because food tastes good.

Historically, food tasted good, too, but hard to get, hard to prepare, and not very caloric. Now it's abundant, very caloric, and *really* easy to prepare (grasp edges, open bag).

It's a losing battle if you don't impose some discipline.

SG

If you are SGing and walking you might actually changing muscle faster than you can lose fat. Do you feel like you are fitter, leaner? How accurate is your scale? I woudn't worry about it a bit. I've been doing a lot of resistance training and my weight shot up even though my No-S diet didn't change...

Good luck!

The combat conditioning book is pretty good, and Hindu pushups and situps are a mainstay for me. SG rounds it out nicely. Good luck!

You're right, it's hard, but only for a few weeks, and then only occasionally after that. And I can tell you carrying around the extra weight is harder. You start by taking one breakfast to lunch period, no more. Then one lunch to dinner period. Then overnight. Bam, day 1 is done. When you're on hab...

Rings...

Right, he's making them out of a strong plastic that's surfaced or molded for grip - a great idea.

You'll love them. You're right to start slow - they really do stress muscles differently than bodyweight exercise with a fixed plane.

Let us know what you think of them.

weight loss...

20 pounds since May. Actually, more, but since I started serious bodyweight training, I've put about 5 pounds back on my shoulders, but that's very different weight.

go Gina!

Congratulations on making it a habit. It might be a good time, as you suggest, to start another one, like exercise. Being a devotee of bodyweight exercises and SG, I suggest you try SG, but start with a broom handle or something equally easy to move. SG is addicting, fun, silly, and will definitely ...

Dried prunes

I doubt there is a problem with eating two dried prunes with each meal.

Are you snacking on them between meals? That, I would think, is a violation of No-S.

Sounds like you are doing great!

If you can stick to three meals, great. If not, four is okay: I did that for a while.

But consider *not* going back and fourth. The idea, particularly at the start, is to create, and stick to, a habit.

It sounds like you are doing very well. Good luck!

I thought my second week was the hardest. And, to be honest, every few weeks one pops up that is really, really hard, even now, eight months into it. You can do it, though. ... are beastly. I do two clean sets of 75 pushups everyday, but I can do no more than 25 hindu pushups, and I'm huffing and puffing. They feel really good, though. Really good. It's about as far as I've ever gotten into yoga-like moves.

Type II

I'm sure your doctor told you these things, but in case he didn't.... Stick with foods that are low on the glycemic index. Veggies and vertical stacking

In general, I try to avoid vertical stacking, but I don't mind heaping up vegetables into as big a pile as I can put on my plate. Don't eat them after dinner - that's snacking/seconds. Better to eat a side salad as a habit without cheese/croutons/heavy dressing than "dabble" later.

A long overdue update...

I hope everyone had a nice Holiday. Okay, so the week between Christmas and New Years wasn't a good one from a No-S perspective. We had lots of visitors, too much food out, and ate at odd times. I just went off the wagon for a week. Two interesting things happened. First, I gained about two pounds i...

a temporary fourth meal

There were several months where I absolutely, positively could not have made it to dinner without making my family miserable. I ate a fourth "meal", most often just one piece of fruit, or one piece of bread with peanut butter. Then I took a little off my dinner plate. I didn't let this mini-meal inc...

I had to re-read your post to fully understand it.

What do you do with numbers other than 1 or 20?

I wonder, is there a way to use this group, the die, and SG exercises to do some type of role playing game? (just kidding).

Dice... or cards

Another way to apply this - it's not so good for SG, but good for bodyweight exercise - is to use a deck of cards. Assign four exercises to the card suits (pushups, dips, squats, and curls, maybe), then pull a card, do the face value number of reps for the suit you pulled, pull another card, repeat ...

damaging your metabolism? I don't think so...

For thousands of years folks in "rich" societies ate three meals a day, if they were lucky (many ate far less). In the past few hundred, we've managed too eat too much, too often, and get fat and sick from it.

Eat three meals and be happy with it.

You'll get used to not eating late: I did. I used to be an incorrigible late night eater: I'm not any longer.
