Hello again everyone, I certainly want to embrace differences, but that doesn't ameliorate my concern that eating 500-600 calories each day can be detrimental to one's health in the long term. Also, I realize that No S can be done with mods (as is true of any diet). However when those mods become hi...

Dhack - I'm glad you found something that seems to be working, but as you point out, the "5 Bite Diet" (by Dr. Alwin Lewis) is not in the spirit of No-S, which offers a simple system for eating in moderation. The 5 bite diet, which recommends 10 bites total each day (5 bites at each of two meals) se...

Recommitting to simplicity and consistency in 2014

So, it's early January, that magical time of year when it seems that life can begin anew! My weight is up a few pounds and I would like to bring it back down, so my 'big' New Year's resolution is to be firmer in my commitment to No-S, which in my mind is following a very simple yet consistent (ie, h...

Hi jw - love the El Fug quotation! I agree with you; what I like about No-S is its simplicity. Too many rules and it becomes something else. That 'something else' may work just fine for many people, but to me 'extra' rules (counting things beyond three plates, etc) result in a system that is difficu...

S-days

Hi MaryAshley, I have never really done S-days. My version of No-S has always been no snacks, no seconds. I still have dessert every day, but I don't have 'special days' for eating snacks, seconds, or extra desserts. I would say that my take on the posts here (and I've been reading them for a couple...

In response to your question, Oolala, I lost the biggest chunk of my weight more than a decade ago. Since then I haven't bounced up more than 10 or 20 pounds at a time - and I've always been able to go back down. For example, a couple of years ago I was up to the mid-160s, but, by curtailing my mind...

Hi ZippaDee!

First of all, I wanted to say: Don't be seduced by WW! Oolala is right about No S being a very reasonable amount of food - and so much easier to 'count' than WW points!

Second - I'm also in Michigan, so I wanted to offer a special 'hello' to a fellow Michigander!

Thank you for all the thoughtful comments. I think you are right, wosnes: the spirit of No S (and all of Reinhard's Everyday Systems) is really about building good habits that work for us. The problem is I'm still not sure if dessert every day 'works' for me as a habit or not. Weight-wise, I'm doing...

Very interesting responses - thank you! I feel sort of guilty because if I am honest, I actually prefer to eat alone at this point. I enjoy watching a Netflix episode on my computer while I have a meal - and not being tempted to eat more because of all the 'extra' food around me. I don't think I'm b...

What if eating with other people is the problem?

Have any of you ever found that it's harder to control your eating if you eat with other people? I notice that if I eat with others I almost automatically eat more. When I'm at a table with friends or family I want to keep eating as long as I see others still eating (or there is more food in dishes ...

i just thought I'd post an update....so far I haven't been able to go dessert-free for a day. I'm not giving up hope, though. Maybe someday soon I can do it. The thing is, I'm not doing badly weight-wise right now - hovering at around 145 lbs, which is my goal (I'm 5'8" tall). This is probably why I...

I like that - 'bite the bullet, not the chocolate'! Honestly this will be a huge step for me. As I've read about No S I've always nodded my head for the 'no snacks' and 'no seconds' rules, but I've just kind of ignored the 'no sweets' rule as if it simply couldn't apply to me. But since I am still h...

thanks, everyone!

I appreciate your replies! Maybe I should just bite the bullet and try ONE day without chocolate...? If other diehard sweet addicts can do it, perhaps I can, too. I'll be honest, though - it sounds impossibly hard. I can't even remember the last time I've gone without dessert for a whole day....

....although I've been lurking for over a year! I read and enjoyed Reinhard's simple yet witty description of the No S diet. I also bought and read the book. I've also really enjoyed this discussion forum and the thoughtful comments that people post. My issue is that even though No S seems like the ...
