I'm OK with "a meal called snack" for kids. Something with parameters and a little formality around it, that you sit down for and eat from a plate or a bowl. It's the informal permasnacking that's the real danger. It would be nice if there were distinct terms for these distinct activities in general...

Congratulations! It's great to see no-s working for very athletic people as well. 10 marathons? My IT band hurts just thinking about it. :-) Friends would tell me I was being too strict Friends are so helpful like that, aren't they? :-) Thanks so much for all the detail and bigger picture thoughts a...

Hi folks, Many apologies for being so out of it recently, bulletin-board-wise. As some of you know, we've got a infant at home and our older girls had to spend some time in the ER recently (everybody's doing great now). Besides not being able to properly attend to the many great posts you all have b...

Congratulations, ironchef! I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to pop by -- we had some medical issues (2 kids in the same ER on the same day for totally unrelated reasons) that were very distracting (everyone's doing fine now). And thanks for all the quantitative/procedural detail! Regarding scale...

Congratulations! That is wonderful news. And I'm so impressed that you stuck with it through all your difficulties. Sure there were some fallings-off, but you came back again and again despite these. To my mind that's even more impressive than if you'd never run into difficulties, and a surer sign t...

Welcome! When I can't use a physical shovelglove, I use my "spiritual shovelglove" and do 14 minutes of whatever I can make work under the circumstances, "14 minutes of anything" -- simple bodyweight exercises like pushups and squats if nothing else. You'd be amazed at how utterly exhausting these c...

Congratulations! Both on the no-s diet and (especially) the baby front! We have a two-month old ourselves are I'm very sympathetic (and envious -- you got an easy one???). Although I hesitate to recommend any diet to new and expecting mothers, it's very encouraging to hear how well it's been working...

Thank you, Deb! Another long stretch, but again fortunately I've been scrawling my transgressions on my daily cards. Monday Sept 3: Memorial day -- shovelglove and No-s s-day. Sept 8: tasks failure (eyepatch again -- glass half full view of my imperfect compliance on this one: I shudder to think how...
