Podcast #92: The Wisdom of Games
Re: Podcast #92: The Wisdom of Games
Hi Reinhard!
Very interesting - we like to play games in our family a lot and I always had the feeling that it also teaches something to our child. Never thought about it in this systematic way as you just did. Probably it teaches us parents as much as it teaches our child?!?!
Reminds me of a quote I once heard: "The English Empire was won on the sportsfields of Eaton - there the Officers learned to cooperate"
Thank you for triggering thinking in ways I would not have done it myself.
All the best
Stefan

Re: Podcast #92: The Wisdom of Games
Thank you, Stefan! I love the British officers at Eaton analogy.
I guess you could say "Everyday Systems are won on the gameboards of Wingspan and Cataan -- there practitioners learn to reconcile competition and cooperation, allocate limited resources, and practice serene acceptance, and enjoy all of the above."
Makes me think I should maybe develop an Everyday Systems board game specifically targeting this things. (My great remaining ambition in life is to design a game and this could be perfect... though I guess Spider Hunter is already a game of sorts).
