Thepowerofcheese's New Start! Visitors Welcome!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Thepowerofcheese's New Start! Visitors Welcome!

Post by thepowerofcheese » Wed Jan 22, 2014 3:23 pm

I decided to restart, because getting sick right after I started again threw me off plan. I'm adding in one mod, which is sweets are fine, as long as they're part of my one-plate meals. I'm someone that when you tell me I can't have something, that's all I'll want.

I've tried allergy diets and other diets for my health conditions (Fibromyalgia, CFIDS, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism). They didn't really help, and were a pain in the butt. I'm SO tired of food restrictions. I just want to LIVE. :)

SO...this is my new journal. Bringing my mantra over here: "3 meals a day is enough. I don't need a snack. No snack is worth my self-control. I'm sexy!"

LET'S DO IT!

Breakfast:
Huevos rancheros
Half apple fritter
Diet Coke

oh, hope you feel better soon!
And I would encourage you to stick with this thread if you fall off the wagon..... looking back through our struggles is a fantastic way to grow. No need to be a perfectionist for NoS to work for us. Just small changes spread out over the many years of our lives.

Thanks for your encouragement, automatedeating! I can't believe I've managed to lose 10 lbs in a month and a half, and I haven't stuck to my tweaked version of No S all that well, really. However, my weight loss is finally stalling now. Darn it! Why can't I just cheat all the time and lose weight? :P So, I'm buckling back down with my tweaked plan, and my short-term goal is to lose another 5 lbs by the end of this month.

Wow, you're going great. 10 pounds in such a short time is awesome. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't continue to come off that fast as you get closer to your goal. I think I settled into a slow downward trend of about 1 or even 0.5 pound each month towards the end. But hey, if it stays off for the rest of my life, slow is fine!

Ugh! I gained back 5 of the 12 lbs I lost. :? Part of that was me being more lax, and part of that was my thyroid (I have hypothyroidism) going wonky for a while. Time to get motivated and back on track! :D

I had to stop No S. I've been more dizzy and exhausted than usual, and it turns out it was due to my blood sugars being very close to diabetic. I went back on a low-carb diet with snacks, and the dizziness and exhaustion started lifting very quickly. Amazing how awful one can feel with erratic blood sugar. Thanks to those of you who have posted in my journal. You truly made me feel welcome. I wish you all the No S success in the world! :D

Sorry to hear that thepowerofcheese! I'm glad you found a way to rein in your bloodsugar. Feel free to stop by anyways and all the best.

I wish you the best! Though low carb with set frequency of eating is No S in my mind, too, since it sounds like your eating will still need to be routine and moderate. If you NEED snacks, that's not the same as just being mindless about them.

There is no S better than (mod) Vanilla No S
