I agree, the family that sees the fruit, eats the fruit.
We have always left bananas and pears and such out in a fruit bowl 
on the counter... I saw some infomercial for some sealed clear bowl, 
which lets in oxygen but somehow reduces the wastage factor somehow 
and less of the fruit overripens and then gets tossed... It was 
probably a scam...
