No Oolala, it wasn't worth it, and it will be a while before I eat that particular food again. I am not sure if it is an innate quality of the food, or just that I have developed an association with overeating it which was triggered. I don't know about automatic, but it has got easier. After lockdown started earlier this year, I put on a couple of pounds after some unwise eating of more energy dense foods than I usually do. But in contrast to pre No S days, I quickly stopped that when I realised I was putting on weight. I have l...

I quickly found that sticking to 3 meals a day 7 days a week suited me better. Occasionally I have a snack if I am really hungry, usually after doing more exercise than usual. To the good advice from Whosonfirst & Soprano, I will add it can take time, so don't give up.
Sometimes if I am having the do nothings, I decide to do just one small, easy thing - that may be enough to
get me over the hump & into some purposeful activity.

Fortnightly check-in: Tues 7 - 3 meals Wed 8 - 3 meals, seconds Thurs 9 - bought a bar of dark chocolate as our walking group visited a chocolatier during our walk. This turned out to be an unwise thing to do on my part. Since I was sick in March, I have lost a lot of the willpower I had wrt food, a...

Re: Smoothies with fruit

My opinion of smoothies in general is that they are a great way of consuming the maximum amount of calories in the minimum amount of time. Seriously, if you really feel in need of something to eat, and a drink of milk is not enough, I think it is better to have a solid food snack, & acknowledge it a...

Re: automated eating tracker

Thursday, May 9 It's the combination of being bored out of my mind combined with having to talk and interact with other parents. That sounds very familiar to me (just replace parents with any group of people I don't know very well). The easiest way I cope is to find an extrovert who likes talking a...

Re: ladybird's check in

Not a silly question. The clubs I walk with were already established. The working bee was the initiative of other women friends of mine, and evolved out of our existing friendship group. Not much help, I know. Membership of the working bee has changed over the years. I can only suggest try out your ...

Mon check in: Eating - mostly OK except for supper one evening which I am not sure I needed. Next time I start feeling a bit empty after dinner, I will wait to see if the feeling develops into sleep stopping hunger or not. Exercise - a good week. Have regained my strength after being sick. 13km walk...

Saturday, May 4 I do NOT want to go through withdrawal again. The first week without alcohol, I had a freaking massive horrible wanna die headache EVERY day. I only just remembered this, because the second week I didn't have a single headache. Yay! But with the pain of the headaches gone, the grogg...

I also don't want to go see the counselor and have them give me a guilt trip for not obviously thinking I should abstain forever. It's my understanding that counsellors in the field of alcohol addiction are moving away from the "must have total abstinence, it is the only way to go model". And even ...

Hi Auto - I've never had addictive problems with alcohol, so nothing to offer there. (I stopped drinking when young because it made me feel terrible).
But I sympathise with your struggles, and wish you all the best with them.

Hi Auto - some restriction, but also feeling blah sometimes meant lack of shopping & not wanting to cook, so - not always enough at meal times. Also, a slight weight gain & a few bouts of overeating was triggering a certain amount of anxiety about the whole thing, which is highly counter productive....

Hi Auto - sometimes my working bee friends are on a walk with me - we belong to the same social circle of people who like doing outdoor things. Thanks Auto. I still sit a lot, and I wouldn't call myself super fit, but at 63 I can still walk 16km (10 miles) in under 5 hours if there aren't too many hills. That is a source of pride for me because of all the effort it represents.
