I used the substitution method very successfully a decade ago to wean myself of my No 1 "Class A" binge food. I would walk around the supermarket promising myself I could buy any else, just not that. Eventually I discovered a "Class B" fat/sugar substitute which I ate instead which just didn't have ...

Here is something you might like to think about - if you had had a bigger lunch, would the available food have been less tempting. Was your lunch truly satisfying, or were you really thinking that it wasn't quite enough when you finished. If the answer to these questions is yes, I had quite enough f...

Some food scientist no doubt spent many hours working on the exact amount of salt to add and the right degree of crunch so that Saltine eaters would do exactly what you did.

So we shouldn't be too disappointed in ourselves. We are up against the big guns.

I think of the No S rules as like wearing a seat belt in a car. In some countries I would have a free choice not to wear a restraining seat belt, but I would be putting myself unnecessarily at risk if I didn't. Similarly with choosing to wear a bike helmet and losing that unrestrained feeling of the...

My thoughts on IF is that it is good for some people, but unless you are doing it for health reasons, it is better to concentrate on cutting out excess food and establishing regular eating habits first. Trying to skip meals can backfire for someone with disordered eating and lead to bingeing. Howeve...

I am sorry you are feeling so anxious. Please be easy on yourself. No S shouldn't be a strain, so just do the parts you think you can without making yourself feel worse. Remember, something is better than nothing, and small amounts of progress are still worth having. All the best with your new job.

I think it takes a long, long time for the body to get regulated at a new set point. I am a firm believer in the no snacking rule as well as pushing the overnight fast to 16 hrs. I think that has been key to resetting my set point. I also think leaving sugar alone except for rare special occasions ...

I never thought about that before, but No S does get easier after a while, while starvation diets just get harder and harder.

How do we know how much to eat at meal times?

It might take a while before a beginning No Ser can accurately judge how much they need to eat at each meal - at least it did for me, and I still get it wrong sometimes. As part of my overcoming bingeing, I have been learning to take notice of my internal cues re eating. There are ways which you can...
