fruit for dessert?
This evening, I made broiled peaches for dessert. They were basted in a little bit of sugar, oil, cinnamon and rosemary. Yum! This got me thinking about having fruit for dessert on N-days. (I took today as an S.) For me, it was a very nice closure to the meal. I cleared the dinner dishes and served ...

help with post-workout headaches
I've lost about 10 lbs so far (in five months), and now I'd like to step things up a bit, so I'm trying to work out more. So I rode the stationary bike in the garage for about 30 minutes. I had my music on and a book to read and felt good I'd done it and felt pretty good while doing it, too. But now...

I think the difference between an NWS day and a failure is probably intention. So, if you decided that a day would be an S day for some special reason, you would be exempted from the rules. However, I would say you could certainly take a graduation as a retroactive S day. :) Congratulations on being...

Now that I've thought a bit more, I realize that a lot of this advice is a good balance for me. I grew up with a pretty erratic schedule and little supervision over what I ate after school. I'm hoping to give my son better habits than I had. It sounds like a lot of people grew up with too much struc...

Maybe my comment on not being a short-order cook sounded a little harsher than what I actually meant. We get him to have at least a bite of everything, then he can have more of what he really liked, if he's still hungry. But if he is in one of those "I hate everything" moods, I can't cater to that. ...

Someone (wosnes, I think) has posted that flossing and brushing after a meal can help with curbing nighttime bingeing. I've definitely found that it helps me! So does having a good book to read and a nice cup of tea. Sheiler is right--licorice tea has a natural sweetness that can shut up sugar cravi...

Tonight my husband made a yummy dinner of kielbasa stew and macaroni and cheese. I was cleaning up after dinner (after a lovely, slowly savored plate), and there was a small amount of sauerkraut stew left at the bottom of the pot. I thought, "Well, it's so little. I'll just eat it instead of putting...

I have a four year old son, and now that I've been no-Sing successfully for five months, I've started wondering about all the snacking that he does. He has a post-nap snack at preschool (I'm not sure what--crackers, probably), and usually some fruit or carrots while his dad and I are getting dinner ...

Hi there & welcome Actually it's "no sweets" that you need to watch out for, meaning cookies, cakes that sort of thing. I don't think ketchup or baked beans are covered there. I seem to have a problem with pizza. Usually the 'no seconds' rule is easy, because I feel satisfied at the end of my plate. Some people have suggested, in the context of treats at work, to wrap up a couple and save them for the weekend. I quit smoking. Today is my fourth day without a cigarette. I'm not having bad withdrawal symptoms, except being a bit hyper and feeling snacky. I just looked at the nutrition content on my dark chocolate stash (70% cocoa). Quite a high content of iron in one serving (25g). So maybe a chocolate craving is related to a need for iron. Apparently dark chocolate also has a high magnesium content. Here's a link: http://www.med.umich.edu/umim/clin...

How do other people with children handle the inevitable fact that no matter how little you put on a kid's plate, he or she will leave 1/3 to 1/2 behind? fruit for dessert?
I don't know if this is strictly in the rules, but you might think about doing fruit for dessert. Baked apples and poached pears use only the sweetness of the fruit itself (or a little wine). I find something like this shuts up cravings for the super sweet stuff.
