Quick oats are not rolled. It's the grain slice very thin so that it cooks quickly. Rolled are just that, rolled. Steel cut are great, nice and chewy but take much longer to cook. Scottish oats are stone ground very coarse and are my favorite type of oats. The intstant oatmeal flavors like the Peach...

I love oatmeal. I prefer the stone ground Scottish oats or steel cut oats to the rolled or quick oats but it's all good. The old fashion Scottish way of eating oats is with some butter and milk with a sprinkle of salt on the top. It's good that way. I have to mail order the Scottish or steel cut and...

salt
The problem is not salt but the type of salt. Common table salt is an industrial by-product that's been highly heated, etc., etc. People for whom salt causes high blood pressure can often use unrefined seal salt or Himalayan crystal salt with no problems.

Bodyweight exercises, pushups, situps, crunches, squats, etc. I do a minimum of 250 puhups a day throughout the day in sets of 50. You can drop and do pushups almost anywhere. I also do YRG (Yoga for regular guys). The DVD's show woman doing it too so it's also for the ladies. All you need is a litt...

A lot of diet and exercise programs have cult-like followings because whatever it is has worked for at least some people. This is a good common sense system but Reinhard is human and thus, fallible. I would caution everyone not to get too caught up in the "cult." We are all responsible for our own l...

For instance, today I did 6 circuits of 25 each pushups, jumping jacks, situps, and squats with no rest in between. You get strength building plus a good aerobic workout. Sometim...

re: descriptive adjectives of overeating. I say, Let's all get over it. It's just a matter of sematics. Here on the forum, we are a diverse group. Another thing to consider about losing is if you are working out like lifting weights or some other strength building exercise, you could be adding muscle which is more dense than fat. To the naked eye, you might not look like you're making progress and you may weigh the same or even more, but if yo...

I usually have a Greek salad which I make at home the night before and put in the fridge - a round of feta cheese, 4 olives, 5 baby tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and red or yellow peppers. On alternate days I have a cheese salad sandwich on multigrain bread. I found that five days of the salad was to...

Exercise and a good diet both play in weight loss and good health. As far as exercise goes, the important thing is to just do something. My wife bought a Schwinn Aerodyne at a garage sale. We both use it some. I had one of those cheapy cross country ski machines that was all over TV 15 years ago or ...

My point in my original post was that the phytoestrogens in beer can hinder fat loss especially in the belly for men and the hips and thighs for women. If you're already happy with he way you look in those areas, then a beer or 2 isn't going to hurt anything. But if you are trying to lose weight, th...

Lots of foods have phytoestrogens in them. Phytoestrogens are estrogen like compounds found in nature. Not all of them behave them same in the body. Some are beneficial. Some mimic the effect of the hormone estrogen in the body. What I mean by "estrogenic" is a food or drink that has phytoestrogens ...

One thing about beer is that it is highly estrogenic. If he has stubborn belly fat, it's possible (and highly likely) that the fat is estrogen sensitive. Thus consuming something like beer (even one before dinner) will make it that much harder to lose weight. It's just empty calories like soda excep...
