A big glass of water helps, and probably aids digestion, too. When I first started NoS, I found that what might be taken as hunger was actual thirst. By eating less food, I was ALSO taking in less water--not by drinking less but because all the extra food I had previously been eating had provided w...

brief hunger pang 20 minutes after eating?

I'm enjoying the fasting between meals now because it's fun to see how tasty my next meal can become. However I notice that about 20 minutes after I'm done eating I'll get some hunger pang. Maybe it's something else and just seems like hunger. I wait it out for about 5 minutes and it passes. Before ...

I'm back. I get it and I love it.

I fell away from this but now I'm back. I read up some more on how snacking is not good for the hormones. I now get it and after the 2nd day, I'm having no issues with keeping it up. I know now that the first 3 hours after a meal, insulin is released and then for the next 2-3 hours, the liver suppli...

I remember at school in the 60s; no one ever brought food to school. At recess we played and at lunch time we went home to eat. Now the kids eat fruit rollups, candy bars, snack bars etc. instead of playing at recess. The teachers graze while working because they keep a small bar fridge near their d...

I hope my appetite will deminish soon. I eat more now at mealtimes so I can hang on till the next meal. It's kind of scary but let's hope it goes down. To the OP: My friend also had a head injury like yours and his memory was very bad. He started taking vitamins which were a help for him. He was abl...

Fasting between meals seems to be a Free Energy Boost. Most people buy those energy bars or drinks or have another coffee in hopes of getting some energy while our bodies will give us this for free. I'm now getting a spring in my step about 1 hour before lunch and I take advantage of it to clean up ...

ScienceDaily.com - article about fasting between meals

Science is showing that we must fast between meals. Even healthy snacking is bad for us. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/12/091206184138.htm ScienceDaily (Dec. 21, 2009) — A body that is provided with food too often gets caught up in the maelstrom of a lack of exercise, obesity and ultim...

Gradually entering No-S

I kept failing at this but the whole concept is good so I won't give up. What I'm doing instead is trying to go No-S gradually. I already don't snack after dinner. That's done. I need to work on snacking between breakfast and lunch and then after lunch. Two blocks of time. So I'm going after the lun...

to add to that

Back in the 1960's, oftentimes the family would have only one car and the father would take it to work. The family only went grocery shopping one day a week - maybe Saturday. Many families didn't have even one car. Thee Original poster's great grandparents in Iowa, possibly? If families wanted to gr...

Not afraid of hunger now

I used to be so afraid of being a bit hungry. Always had to have something in my stomach. 1. If you don't eat enough, your body will go into starvation mode. Not true. What happened to eat less and move more - common sense to lose weight? 2. You don't want to let too much time go by - make sure you ...

what about sleeping?

You say you can't go more than 3 hours without eating. Do you go through the night without eating? I wonder if something is different in the body at night that allows us to sleep without needing to eat often.

milk and juice?

Milk and juice both sound like a snack to me. I'll try milk for sure and see how that goes.

I work with kids so I don't want to be grouchy just for the sake of having a slender body. But all of you say that it might pass with time if I ride it out. I sure hope so.

Re: Rambling First Impressions

It's like my house was flooding, and everyone is trying to tell me where water comes from, how the water got into the faucet, how the faucet works, how the water will damage the woodwork inside the house...but no one says, "turn off the water, moron." I love this post and especially that line. The ...

I might have to modify it a bit for me

Although I'm hungry, I don't want to eat - just couldn't be bothered, really. However I'm edgy and crabby. So like you said, perhaps a quick drink of milk or even a small hard candy might do the trick. I'll have to play around with it till I figure out how to make it work for me. It's nice to know t...

I'm crabby and irritable when I'm too hungry

I don't mind waiting till mealtimes to eat - it sure makes things taste great. However I noticed I was crabby and irritable. Jumping at my kids for little things. It's due to low blood sugar, of course. Is there some way to keep my blood sugar from going too low about an hour before I eat dinner? Ma...

every snack is an appetizer

Appetizers are eaten before the meal to "start up" the appetite. So each time we eat a snack between meals, we're igniting our appetite.

Maybe I don't need potato chips afterall

I always had chips around here because they made good snacks. Today, day one of No-S, I didn't see any point to eating chips with lunch. As the book says, it seems silly to eat snack food as part of a meal. I'm quite happy with this so far, but it's only day one. I hope I can make this a lifetime ha...

Would potato chips be ok?

I'm new and this No-S seems very doable. However I wonder if I could add a small serving of potato chips to my lunch? It's not sugar and it's not a snack - just part of lunch. Would that work?

Thanks.
