So how do you approximate the calories you're counting without counting calories? I've done great at maintaining on No S, just by eating the 3 meals a day. I'm at the point where I don't 'need' to lose weight, but if I decide I do want to lose those 'last 5 pounds,' I'm still not sure how to do it o...

A Good Lesson on Not Snacking

Yesterday was just a rough day, in terms of eating. It started off with having a small piece of coffee cake at Bible study (about 2 hours after breakfast) and a dessert with lunch. That afternoon, I was craving a Pumpkin Spice frappucino, so I had a small one at about 3 PM (3 hours before dinner). S...

Welcome! Your body should definitely adjust, once you get more used to the No S diet. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! It's very freeing to eat three (good) meals a day and to not have to worry about snacking.

Noel, I tend to do pilates, yoga, or lighter weight workouts, so maybe I don't need breakfast right away, then. I know today, I slept late, barely got in my workout before my son woke up, and I had to eat breakfast at around 7:30 -- about an hour later than normal. Even though I waited an hour, I st...

That's interesting about breakfast. I eat a fairly big breakfast during the week, because I exercise first thing in the morning, and I've read various things about how you should fuel your muscles 30 minutes after a work out. I'm not sure if it's true, but I don't think it's a bad idea, either. Anyw...

Wosnes, I hear you on homemade cookies! I'm finding that, too. I'd much rather have my homemade cookies than the store-bought ones.

I'm also in the camp where I need a modification. Like Wosnes said, I'm trying to find a way of eating that I can stick with for the rest of my life and so far, my modifications (one dessert with either lunch or dinner and a few extra treats on the wekends, but not outright S day eating) seem to be ...

I'm still working on my eating, but I'm sort of eating in a way that Brightangel mentioned in her post. I can very easily follow the no snacks and no seconds rules almost perfectly (I rarely ever snack or get seconds), but it's just too hard for me to give up sweets. When I tried doing Vanilla No S,...

I think that makes a lot of sense! What exactly do you mean by that rule about how if you're hungry before your next meal, to have 3 bites on your plate? Do you account for those three bites on your next plate of food? I think I'm doing something sort of similar to you. I do allow myself a small amo...

You could be right, in that some of the foods you're eating are not filling you up enough. I know I had that problem tonight with dinner. I had spaghetti made with thin noodles (so not whole grain), a four cheese sauce over it with meat and some mozerella cheese, and a small piece of ciabatta bread ...

John, I sure empathize with stomach issues. I don't officially have IBS, but I have a touchy stomach, also. I don't have any advice to add, but good luck on finding foods that work for you. Are you lactose intolerant? Is that why you drink soy milk? I'm lactose intolerant, and I seem to do the best ...

It definitely makes sense. I'm guessing that since you're not eating as many carbs, that probably helps, also (since eating too many carbs can be very bloating).

Noel, ITA with you about how our culture equates self-discipline with self-punishment. I know that's an area in which I struggle. My days always go so much better when I'm disciplined with my time and with my eating, but I constantly struggle with the inner toddler demanding to be able to do what I ...

One thing that helps me to stay fuller between meals is to make sure to include a protein source with each meal. For example, breakfast might be a bowl of cereal, some fruit, and a sausage patty; lunch might be a meat sandwich of some sort, some fruit and veggies, and a small portion of chips; dinne...

Yes, this is a great way to eat! I figured this out on my own when I was first starting No S a few months ago, because I was trying to fill my plate in such a way that would keep me satisfied for several hours. Now, I usually have 3-4 things with each meal. I find that if I have more than 4, the mea...

Wosnes, I hear you! I read several diet books this summer, and they talked about things like restricting your fat intake to 25 grams a day, balancing your proteins, carbs, fats to a precise ratio, etc... There's no way I'm going to restrict myself like that for the rest of my life.

Walkerlori, It sounds like we're eating almost the same way. I'm allowing myself a small dessert that fits onto either my lunch or dinner plate, depending on how my day is going. Since you eat like this, do you treat S days like S days? I'm still figuring this part out. So far, I've mostly been trea...
