Hi, Oolala, Using everything up in the fridge is a great exercise, if it doesn't derail your program. I travel for work for a couple of weeks, several times a year, and try to clean the fridge and freezer out so I can unplug it before I go. Some meals at the end are a little strange, I'll admit, but...

OK, I'm trying to really get back on track here and go with Vanilla NoS, despite the fact that most of my socializing occurs during the workweek, so there may be some awkwardness. A couple of times a month, I go to a friend's house for supper and she always serves a dessert or few pieces of chocolat...

Re: Failures on N-Days - should I still take an S?
Dear Flor, Welcome to the boards. My advice would be to take and enjoy your regular S days. NoS doesn't involve punishing yourself or making up lost days, either. Just maybe put some thought into planning your next N week. Make sure you plan big/heavy enough plates of food to keep you satisfied and ...

I will be 40 this summer and would like to be at my goal weight by then. Maybe I need to be a bit more patient. Welcome, Speedmom4, If you look around old threads, you'll see a tendency to emphasize building habit over seeking particular results. If you have a good habit established, like mo...

Hi, Mabelsfriend, For me, it helps to have something I can pack at a moment's notice that I enjoy eating, which fits nicely into 1 tupperware. For me that is often a bed of shreaded carrots with a cooked veggie (like cold steamed cauliflower or grilled eggplant) on top, smothered with some cottage c...

Interesting question... I think that often the plates are not "roughly the same size", as many of us ladies use smaller plates. My standard plate is 9" with a 1" rim. Also, I think that what goes on those plates probably varies from person to person. I'd love to eat 2 Wendy's pub chicken sandwiches ...

Hi, Alice, I think it's good if you can follow Vanilla NoS for a while (6 months?) and see how it goes before making any changes. However, from my point of view, eating muffins, homemade coffee cake and pancakes on N days is not Vanilla NoS. So, rather than seeing your question as being about how lo...

Hi NoSnacker, I'm late to the party, but wanted to offer heart-felt congratulations on the birth of your grandson, Angelo! Sorry it's a stressful and busy time. I hope you can find time to enjoy the baby as well as meet your work obligations. NoS can sometimes give more peace in the midst of chaos, ...

I do see that trying to help someone keep records and let go of their self-criticism, but rather just try to regard the journal as data, would be useful ... If people could just be rational about it- hey, here is when I'm overeating, I'll make efforts to reduce it while not expecting to get it righ...

Thanks for raising this question, NoSnacker. I am not currently keeping a food journal, but I know that the times in which I am actually losing weight on NoS, are the times in which I have kept a journal. When I do, I use a spreadsheet in Excel which shows the meals going across and the days going d...

@oolala- Thanks for the analogy of "throwing the rest of a carton of eggs on the floor because you dropped one". That really brings out that each decision is a seperate matter and that one failure is really a unit, and doesn't have to affect the next one, though we often don't see the reality of tha...

Hi, maryashley, Just stopping in to say that I'm not one of those who is restrictive on S days. It does seem to be talked about lately, but maybe that's a product of so many potential S days in this month of December-? Another thing is that some people find the weight loss stalls for some months, an...

Well, I took Christmas Eve and Christmas as S days, and am working on getting back on the NoS wagon after too much slackness in November and December overall. So far so good today! I don't have anything planned for New Year's, so that should be in the regular N category. I'm going to try vanilla NoS...

It seems like this year is particularly awkward, as the holidays all fall smack in the middle of the week. Given your update, it might be good to jot a few notes on your calendar about what events you didn't feel so good about, and some time in the new year do a "post mortem" and see what you might ...

There are some good ideas offered here. For me, when I run into problems on vacation it's from eating a lot of sweet snacks or really just ridiculous amounts of food at some meals. I like the idea of not giving yourself a "red" no matter what happens. But maybe decide in advance which days you'll ea...

I'm kind of coasting along on NoS these days. I was off it in March-May 2012, and again over the 2012 winder holidays, so put on some weight, after having lost 14# from my starting point. So now I'm trying to get down there again. I eat on kind of an odd schedule- a normal breakfast, a large heavy p...

Just wondering if this is particularly a problem during the nigt or all day as well-? You could compromise and eat 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day for a while and then cut them down gradually back to 3 and see how that goes. Maybe watch the timing, and eat all 3 a bit earlier than you were use...
