Would that really help with impact though?
Personally, I leave my sledge naked like the day it was bought. I support sledgehammer nudism apparently!

Tim, Great work at keeping with it! In America, the next natural jump is from 12 lber to 16 lber. This is also a 4 lb jump so going from 10 lb to 14 lb would be similar. Do not get frustrated when you make the jump. I started with 8 lbs, then went to 10 and that transition was smooth. I then jumped ...

The biggest suggestion would be to just do it and see how it goes! When you were 12, did you worry about your joints? NO! So if you are going to run for enjoyment (and health benefits) now, why worry about it? For people that pound the pavement 20-40 miles a week, this becomes more of a concern. If ...

Sounds like a good program, but right now, the length of time it suggest that I run during each running segment, is too much for me. Shovelglove does help with weight loss
Well, for those of you that do not know. I started shovelglove with an 8 lb hammer back in January. I then moved up to 10 lb hammer in march. During this window, I had lost 20 lbs, and then the weight loss slowed. This brought me from 280 to 260. I then adjusted my diet (not really following NoS, bu...

Re: I came in 293!
And I'm actually proud of myself (hey, it was out of 1150). For my first race, and barely twice a month practice runs, I don't think that's too bad. http://www.coolrunning.com/results/11/ma/May7_Boston_set1.shtml (scroll or control/apple f for "reinhard" to find me) 8 mile run pace is definitely no...

W6D3: Success Well, as anyone in the NYC area knows, it is bad weather out, so I decided to hit the treadmill and see how things go. Well, I set the speed and went at it and it was a remarkable success. I had no pain in my legs, and breathing was just right. I went the 20 minutes, and decided, why n...

W5D3 R1: Success So, yes, I know, I am on W6D2 right? Why on earth am I going back in time? Well, I proceeded to run my mile again, and was like, you know, I never did complete W5D3 outside, perhaps today is the day? YES! Here is the new plan. I am going to do W5D3 2 more times, than increase to 25 ...

If I did drive into NYC, I would not have walked to the office. (1.5 miles) If I did mail the cable to the client, I would not have walked to the client site. (1.2 miles) If I did leave early (totally could have), I would not have walked back to the office after the client site (1.2 miles) If I did ...

W6D2 R2: Success So, I decided to change it up a little bit. I figured that 10 minutes was getting me close to a mile, I might as well actually RUN the mile, so I did. I did the mile in 13 minutes, my best recorded time. This is, of course, injured. I jogged a little bit slower yesterday because whi...

W6D2 R2: Success Did this outside on Saturday and the weather cooperated perfectly. Using my new theory of minimum being my maximum, the run went so much easier than it has prior. My legs did not hurt as much, no shin pain. The first 10 minutes went by without a much to do. It almost made running en...

I guess you'll sweat more because you don't create a "head wind" on the treadmill. I'm not doing too well on the program. It's been hard to find a consistent time to do so. Because of the Type I diabetes, running around dinner time is hard (my Bg plummets), and my wife runs the dog in the morning.....

Deb, Hows the walking going? If it doesn't rain, today is an AWESOME day to go for a walk. I walked from Grand Central to my office, and it was a treat. I'm with you all the way on energy intake having a greater effect on the weight gain/loss equation than exercise only. So does fat. My suggestion would be to have instead of anything cardio for 14 minutes to actually have a specific exercise in mind. UR, for example, would probably work better for the habit forming aspect. Ideally, you should also have a set time to perform the exercise as well, to make it more likely that you w...

No, it isn't, especially if you went from winter to summer this week like we did. Indeed, it was much nicer out for me to do my exercise, I preferred it when it was about 40 degrees out. I am slightly disappointed that the 10 lb is no more of a challenge as the 8 lb'er was. Should I feel a difference between 8 & 10 lb sledge?
Besides the fact that I know it is heavier, I went up from 8 lbs to 10 lbs, and the 10 lber didn't slow me down at all. Doing the back scratchers was a bit more work, but I was able to do my entire routine with barely noticing a difference. Perhaps it would make more sense for me to jump up to 12 lb...
