Wow - I love what your friend said to your son, that is some real Yoda-level parenting wisdom. The discussion between Stefan and you is intriguing as well: the idea that a problem or challenge has to be big enough to inspire someone to really go all out to tackle it. If not, and if we are not made u...

Re: Amy's Checking In Again
Hi WIN! It is definitely an effective tool, but that is not to say that I am perfect at No-S, not by any means! I have red days every single week. But I know if I hadn't been here working on this the past ten years or so, I would still have a BMI of 30 (or probably higher by now), because I would pr...

When we are struggling is when we are most deserving of support, WIN! It sounds like your body's survival instincts took over - and there is very little one can do when that kicks in. Like Soprano said, learn from it for the future. And keep going!

Thanks Oolala and Ladybird! I like the idea of "never give into a craving". A big part of what we have been working on all these years is weakening the link between eating certain things and a perceived emotional comfort. And every time we can stop ourselves from giving in to the craving, ...

I'm sorry you've been feeling bad! Thanks so much for being willing to share your insights with us, I think it is enormously helpful to get a peek into how you deal with emotions without using food to numb them. Not only how you do it, but also that it is possible! I hope you're feeling better about...

Re: Amy's Checking In Again
Giving in leads to giving up, in the end, doesn't it? And I never want to go back to how I was, or become who I would have become had I not changed my habits. I see people my age and older around me who are physically impaired because of lifestyle factors, and I feel bad for them, but do not want to...

The functional motivation of wanting to be able to keep doing your long hikes is so powerful! It's great to hear how you've managed to put different puzzle pieces together to get where you want to be.

And that trend has become the norm here in Europe, as well, as I am sure you will observe when you are here. Over the past 34 years living here, it is striking how overweight and obesity have become more prevalent, as the food culture has become more and more Americanized. Wishing you a safe journey...

Good on you, WIN, for being honest with yourself and more consistent this week. Nope, indulgences are not free, but our brain sometimes tries to trick us into believing this and rationalizing our overeating away. Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks, WIN! Phew, got things back under control.
I gave myself a good talking to. The thing I always try to remind myself, when having an urge to overeat, is to ask myself how I will feel about this tomorrow. But sometimes hard to remember that in the heat of an urge.

I guess we can't rush feeling better, the body needs the time it needs. And reduced appetite is a big part of that. Sometimes I wish I could keep my "sick" appetite around for a while.

I am going for another green day today. Will have to do some virtual plating as I have a housewarming to go to this evening.

Thanks so much, WIN! Once a month I do a night shift for my volunteer work, and the day after I am very tired and end up overeating, not so much out of hunger, but just because I am so loopy from not having slept, and often count it as a Non Weekend S Day. I had my night shift for July las...

Hi WIN! I think there is something about sticking to this longer term, it becomes ingrained, even when I'm not doing it perfectly it is still my framework. I still struggle with bouts of overeating (stress, celebratory eating, and being out of my routine all trip me up sometimes!) and have to mark l...

Hi Pink, Hi Lady! I think what you both point out is crucial - this is a practice we get better at over the longer term! And it is only by consistent practice, allowing ourselves to find the balance that works for us individually, that we get to a place where we mainly feel good about our food habit...
