I'm not very good at No S (and mix it up with other things, so no wonder ...), so I know where you're coming from! 1) I ended up giving up on Habitcal because I hated seeing a whole day as a failure. I'd rather just try to get back on track from the next meal, rather than write the whole day off. So...

Oh, I agree and historically it might be also be natural to have periods of starvation or overeating. I was meaning more that it feels natural in terms of weight control (something that wasn't such a big issue in the past). But before I got overweight I (mostly) didn't watch what I ate at all, and y...

I watched a TV programme about obesity a while ago. The thing that really stuck with me was the programme saying that fat people's levels of hormones which control hunger and satiety followed a different pattern to slim people's, meaning that we're always a bit hungry and never completely satiated. ...

I was looking at this a while ago on the National Weight Control Registry site.
http://www.nwcr.ws/Research/default.htm
It's a bit more positive about losing weight with a program (like No S, I suppose), rather than without.

My original goal was 10% for that reason. But now I've lost it, I'm still a bit lost about what I should aim for. Another 10%? My original weight? Is it better/easier/more sustainable to try to maintain that higher weight rather than continue to lose? Or is it always better to aim for a normal BMI? ...

I've been through long periods of eating what I wanted. I was lucky enough to be one of those people who never seemed to put on weight when I was younger. Then when I did put on weight and I was having problems with diets, I decided to just eat normally and see what happened. I think it was "healthy...

Did the 42% cut out snacks and deserts entirely? You'd think it would be easier to stick with something more moderate (like No S), but maybe not? It's interesting that such a high proportion didn't use books or groups. I wonder why they chose such low weight loss (10%) to look at, though. I'd like t...

Yes, I've tried No S without calorie counting for quite a while (can't remember how long exactly) and did lose some weight initially, but I suppose my calorie requirements dropped as my weight dropped! It's now difficult to pick apart how much weight I've lost from No S and how much from calorie cou...

I think that No S is the most sensible diet I've seen, and I do understand that it's meant to be something that you can do indefinitely without having to obsessively count calories (or anything else). I think that sticking to the rules will mean that you eat less calories. However, speaking as a sho...

I saw an interesting tv programme about the "skinny fat" issue (although I don't think they called it that) - apparently some people who appear slim or skinny can have excess visceral fat and a high body fat percentage. There seemed to be a link to low birth weight. The whole thing is confusing. It ...

Interesting article. I have never lost weight through exercise alone. I have once gained weight through exercise alone (I wasn't overweight at the time)! I suppose that whatever you eat IS your diet, so you're techinically always on a diet. But I'd tend to use "dieting" to mean watching what you eat in some way (with the purpose of weight control). I think it's the exception for dieting to "work" in the sense of making you lose a large amount of weig...

Congratulations on your baby and on breastfeeding :). I put on a lot of weight when I was pregnant, but it all came off (and more) without adjusting my diet. I've wondered about that too. I often have muesli and greek yoghurt for breakfast which is definitely sweet and sugary (due to the dried fruit), but I think it still fits with the spirit of No S.
