Re: KCCC's Yearly Check In (was 2012 Check In)
Wow, it's been a minute since I've been here! Current stats: Age - 67 Weight - 145 (I consider 144-146 as my "happy place"). Height 5'6" Just checked into the FB group (which, sorry, I don't like as well) because I noticed that, though weight was fine, I was getting habit-drift, which is not good th...

Re: KCCC's 2019 Holiday Check In
Gradually getting back into the swing of things. Thursday I forgot and had a store sample, but I didn't "wreck the car" after. Technically a red, but I count it a win. Friday evening is S for me (and Saturday is an N), because it fits better with my life. I stayed green until the evening get-together.

Hi, are you the same KCCC that was here a few years ago? Not that it matters . . . I just remember the handle. In any case welcome. Personally, I visit sporadically but it's always nice to see a familiar face. Yup, it's me. Home for the holidays! Most of the year, I do fine. During the holiday seas...

Back for the holiday season. As usual.
Leave during the rest of the year because No-S is pretty automatic the rest of the year.

Re: "Train" now for holiday eating
How topical - I came back especially for the holiday season! Last year, I went overboard and had to actually work on losing rather than maintaining once the New Year came... Did NOT like that. My habits do get a little sloppy over the course of the year, and when in the normal course of things, it's...

Re: Does the obesssion with food go away with Nos?
I did find that I gained a lot of mental bandwidth from not snacking, not debating internally whether I should/shouldn’t eat, and far less beating myself up for food choices I regretted. There’s a good bit of research about how eating can be emotionally driven. It’s a great avoidance strategy for no...

Re: S day dessert ideas for a family of four
Homemade pudding. You can make just 4 servings of chocolate pudding.
The recipe for Tapioca (on the Minute Tapioca biz) makes 6 half- cup servings. But you can have slightly larger servings to use it up in one go, or let the kids (or adults) have an extra at another meal.

Re: Reflections on No-S and BLE
Hi Merry! So nice to "see a familiar face," so to speak. Yes, the marketing hype is annoying. I tended to put on a video/vlog while I was doing other stuff that didn't take all my attention. But if you're willing to dig, there's some very useful stuff. I was also in the "can't get my good habits goi...

Re: Reflections on No-S and BLE
One of the useful aspects of BLE corresponds to a feature of No-S - an emphasis on creating new habits. There are some re-phrasings of familiar ideas that I found helpful. All of us have to coping with some sort of "lapse" at times. The catch-phrase used in BLE is "Re-zoom" (a cutesy spelling of "Re...

Totally agree with you on the difference between refined carbs and whole grain. That distinction is one of the things that attracted me to BLE. (I wouldn’t do Keto or paleo on a bet.)

Re: Reflections on No-S and BLE
Okay, for those of you not familiar with "Bright Lines Eating," or the originator's story, here's a summary. Reflections on No-S and BLE
Hello all. Some of you may remember me... I'm a long-time no-s-er, but don't post much anymore. Usually I pop back in just before the holidays to clean up my habits. This year I didn't. And I was sorry. For the first time in years , "lose weight" was on my list of New Year's Resolutions. :( Worse, I...

Marking "S-days" in advance is a good idea. Mostly, I think, I just need to tighten up a bit - it's easy to become complacent, and get a little sloppy. So it's back to basics, paying more attention to details on N-days, and being intentional about treats. I generally enjoy treats I plan for, and fee...

Well, I was right on in my weight estimage. 149.5 - up 1.5 lbs for the holidays. Not as good as I'd hoped (planned to hold steady), not as bad as it could have been. Following the advice of a wise friend, I'll put my energy into the future, not the past. And No-S is already much easier now that I'm ...

Been a while since I checked in. I did keep my N days for M-W between Christmas and New Year's. However, we got sad news that an old friend had died, and traveled to his memorial service on the 31st. And when we got back, there were several back-to-back New Year's events. So I haven't been keeping u...

Busy holiday, full of family and festivities... ... and far too many S's. And not quite enough exercise either Christmas Day or the day after, when I traveled to see extended family. I do enjoy this time of year, but the influx of sugar isn't good for me. It starts creating addictive behavior. I wal...

"An inside job"
Anne Lamott published a great article on starting diets on Jan. 1 - funny and insightful. Here's the full text. My favorite excerpts are near the end, past all the funny comments about the latest "It diet". So please join me in not starting a diet January 1st. It's really okay, though, to have (or p...

Another day exactly like yesterday... S-fail = an extra slice of pizza and two cookies. I am definitely in the holiday mood... and don't wanna be moderate. It's Christmas Eve today, dang it. And Christmas is tomorrow. But if I don't respect habits now, how will they stay habits? Need to think about ...

I actually did well then, but in the evening I caved and ate some of my cookies. Shopping in the rain makes me feel I "des...

Hi, Gingerpie! I use an app called "Buddhify" for short guided meditations, and the "going to sleep" ones are great. So, when I run out of time, I use one of those at the end of the day. But in that I really want to develop a meditation habit, it seems like a cheat to do it all the time - so I'm try...

I think anyone who can complete a half marathon doesn't just LOOK athletic, but IS athletic. But I totally get the way that it's easy to look at your own body with such unwarranted criticism. And how moving beyond that is a HUGE deal. Hold on to that attitude! I find that when I am less critical of ...

I usually end up doing a "feel like crap" S-day every couple of months. At this point, they serve to remind me that I really don't LIKE eating like that. Which is a good thing to remember. I don't quite know how widely I fluctuate, because I try not to weigh too often - and usually do it mid-week, after a day or two of sanity has evened out my S-days. Monday was good. All the goals. And I feel so much better as a result! Tonight we are going out to eat with another couple, and it's (a) a bit late and (b) at a restaurant they chose, that I'm actually not fond of. So some pre-planning is in order. Worst S-days EVER. Baking + holiday parties (2) = overstuffed me. I "ate to icky" by Saturday evening and couldn't seem to stop. Met all the goals again yesterday. Woot! I'm on a roll! The restaurant meal was a slice and salad. It was a big slice, but not an unreasonable meal overall. Most of us don't. Putting food in its proper place takes longer and is harder than you would think. Quoted for truth. Food does stand in for so much else! Noni, you have to do what works for you as a family. If you've allowed a lot of cookies, it's hard to wean them off. (I know what would happen at my house if I tried to crack down on soda!). I look at the menu and try to pick a reasonable dish to start with. Sometimes a couple of appetizer dishes are enough for a meal, or something from the "healthy choices" options.
