And herein lies the beauty of nos. It's not that weight loss( calorie restricted ) diets don't "work" . They do. It's just that the strategies most of them employ to restrict caloric intake are not sustainable. Conventional diets fail long term for behavioural, not physiological reasons. Nos strateg...

For me the problem with calorie counting is it puts things the wrong way round. By the end of the day, when counting calories ( or WW points ) I would be thinking " I have 250 calories "left". What can I have ?" and then spend ages deliberating whether to blow it on a glass of wine or some chocolate...

Totally agree with oolala about not talking about it to anyone. That sort of turns it into "yet another diet ". Of course any way of eating (including noS) is a "diet" but noS is not a diet in the conventional sense of the word. It's a kind of non diet ! Talking about the diet you are "on" ( which i...

I've been giving noS some thought - but not too much , because therein lies the madness - and I think it is a bit like a wayward child's behaviour and happiness improving if they are given firm boundaries.

And actually noS boundaries are firm but not onerous.

Jonas ( what a great name) glad I am not alone in my view. I realise posting stuff about how people raise children can be a sensitive topic.

Delayed gratification is an important principle( and in the case of food it directly impacts one's health ) and it's never too early to learn it .

encouraging constant snacking in toddlers??

This snacking thing starts young doesn't it? What's with the modern parenting habit of plying toddlers with a constant stream of snacks and drinks? When did this start? It was not the norm in my childhood. I see parents everywhere (including CHURCH ) rummaging around in bags for little tupperware tu...

why do I go to bed ravenous and wake up ok?

Like many others I find the hours between dinner and bedtime the most challenging as this is when the fat beast within traditionally wants to scarf down all the tasty extras. Especially when everyone else has gone to bed. I do enjoy a solo foodfest. BUT I SHALL RESIST.... I go to bed feeling VERY hu...

My name is Jasper and I am a slothful glutton. Or a genetically hospitable person who hates sport and likes to cook and eat for friends and potter around at home. Same thing, really . That's my release from being a worn out wreck with a difficult and responsible job and three small children. For tho...

Reading check ins; discouraged at lack of success

I discovered this site last week. I am giving it my best shot. I have been reading many of the daily check in threads and am most discouraged. Hardly anyone on these threads has lost weight. The general tendency is to start enthusiastically, then fail . then start again. Then fail again. Is there re...
