1 Year Check in

(New!) Read (or post) about people who have stuck with No-S for 10 or more months, lost 10 or more pounds, or 10 or more percent for their starting weight. Periodic updates strongly encouraged -- you can think of it as "Yearly Check In."

1 Year Check in

Post by Jvcnm » Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:47 am

(I posted most of this in response to another post. Maybe it will help someone here).

I tried No S many times, but always fell off the wagon within a month. This past Jan, I started again but this time I tried having absolutely no (zero) S days. It's now Dec and I've lost 32 pounds.

I love the rhythm and consistency of 3 meals a day. I have always had a problem with sweets. Now I eat delicious, filling food. I don't force myself to eat veggies or protein or what have you - it seems like I'll have a high carb or low veg day (AKA "Beige 'n' Brown Foods" meals😀), and then a few days later I'll have the opposite. I used to think about my weight and fret about food many times a day. That has disappeared.

At first, I would pile my plate high at each meal. Over time, my plates became less mountainous. I didn't really notice it happening. If I'm hungry between meals, I'll drink milk or have a dairy-forward cup of tea.

I have no idea how many calories I eat a day, but it seems like a lot. I have butter and sourdough bread at most meals. I eat whatever I want as long as it's not sweet. I have noticed that I really dislike that "uncomfortably full" feeling now, so I try to avoid it.

I have gained and lost hundreds or maybe thousands of pounds in my life. I was put on my first diet when I was 8 years old. Since then, I've either been "on a diet " or "off the wagon". It sounds ridiculous when I write it, but I don't think I'm alone in my experience. Right now, I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I feel normal (even though eating 3 meals a day is not that normal these days).

In addition to the no s diet, I have been thinking more about "why" I ate so much and what triggers me. I attended some OA meetings and found them helpful in this.

I think my particular personality/history/physiology responds well to rigid habits when it comes to mealtimes and sweets. Though it may not for everyone, no s has changed my weight and my life for the better.

Congratulations!

I've been pretty much under water this year, but it's all that much more gratifying to see people posting here and on facebook even without my hovering.
