No S and Saving Money
On another message board I frequent, there is a thread about ways to save money, for a person whose spending is largely on food. I mentioned No S, and said that cutting out snack foods and sweets would probably help save some money. I suspect I'm spending less on food since going on No S, but I don't really track expenditures very closely. Is there anyone here who does track their food spending more closely than I do, and noticed a difference when they started on No S?

Our grocery bill is about 20% less when I am strict about No-S v. not.

I got to thinking about this some more -- the lower food bill thing. Yes, not buying snack foods helps, but I think in my case, part of the dramatic lowering in food spending also has to do with the fact that when I'm strictly No-Sing, I tend to PLAN meals more.
You know, stuff like: "Okay, roast chicken for dinner on Monday. Pick off some of the leftover meat for bentos for lunch... then I'll make Carcass Soup for Tuesday..." Because I'm thinking about the week as a whole, what I'm making for each meal (cause when I'm eating three times a day, I do like to make those meals COUNT when I have the option), making sure that I'm getting a variety, that it's tasty, and that leftovers from one meal can be repurposed properly to another meal, this translates into a large savings.

I save $50 to $75 a month when doing my 3-0-7 NO S. That's a lot for one person.
