Do you feel hungry between meals?

You might want to try Chia Seeds. Read up online about it. I've been on them this week and I notice a big difference in my appetite. They really do help me stay full and I put them on almost anything. Wish I'd known about it sooner! It makes this soooo much easier!

I am also on Chromium and Borage Oil.

When I eat a balanced meal with a fair amount of protein, no. When I eat unbalanced, carb-heavy meals, I get hungry and sometimes grouchy.

Wanttogethealthy - thanks so much for the chia seed reference. I saw them at the store and thought I will try it out - so far, it seems to be helping with my blood sugar, I haven't crashed at all yet like I sometimes do around 3 pm!!!

Do You Feel Hungry Between Meals

Post by losingforgood » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:56 pm

I do get hungry between meals, but usually it's when it's close to meal time, so it's appropriate to feel that way then. We've been trained through other diets to not allow ourselves to feel hungry. We're told to eat "a small healthy snack" as soon as we feel a little bit hungry". But I do know that the more I fill my meals with foods that are nutritious and filling that fit into more than one food group to try and balance the meal out, the longer it sustaines my appetite between meals. And I don't necessarily cut out all the fat by using skim milk or always using lean meats. And I don't seperate my eggs. I sprinkle nuts on top of my cereal to help me feel full faster on the days when I have cereal. The bulk foods tend to naturally have more fat, but cutting out the fat also cuts out alot of the nutrition that's in that food. So, variety, portions, and make sure your meals contain foods that fill you up.

I just stumbled upon an interesting blog and this post relates to hunger: Should kids be allowed to randomly snack? The French would say definitely not! Here's why...
Here’s my view, based on what I learned in France–but also based on commonsense. There is a difference between feeling hungry and being hungry. No one wants a child to BE hungry. But the French think it’s OK to FEEL hungry. What does that mean? It means being comfortable if your stomach is empty, and being able to wait until your next mealtime–even if you do feel hungry. Otherwise, the French believe, you create a culture of ‘unregulated eating’….with all of the health problems that arise from that. And I think that we see the signs of this all around us here in North America.
It's okay to feel hunger between meals; it's not okay to be hungry, that is, never having enough to eat. Most of us have no idea of what it is to BE hungry.
"That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do. Not that the nature of the thing itself has changed but our power to do it is increased." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You are what you eat -- so don't be Fast, Easy, Cheap or Fake."
