My scales only show I lost a 1/2 lb So could someone tell me why I can get into a smaller size of jeans? Which I am happy about.

I can think of a number of reasons. However, why wonder about the "why?" Just enjoy it! (And don't rely on the scale.)

The first thing that came to my mind is the fact that when we eat only 3 meals a day, we lose that bloated feeling very quickly. Many people on here, myself included, can attest to this.
