My First Day

Post by LiterBiter10 » Tue May 13, 2008 10:52 am

I started no S yesterday. It makes such sense to me. However, after reading some of the posts, it's more complicated. So many people are still over-thinking everything they eat. I thought the idea was to keep it very simple. Am I making this too easy? I just ate regular meals and avoided the snacks and sweets. I didn't feel guilty about what I ate. I felt proud about what I didn't.

If I'm over-simplifying this, please someone let me know.

Thanks.

"You're not" is right. Simplicity is a big part of the beauty of this plan.

We are a big and varied group though, with lots of diet baggage. Some complications are bound to arise. My suggestion is that you have your salt shaker right by the computer and take everything you read with a grain of salt. Don't let the message boards make it harder for you.

It sounds like you had a great day yesterday! Keep it going. I'm glad you are here.

I thought the exact same thing when I initially visited these boards.

Things I keep in mind are:
1) Keep it simple
2) My main reason for choosing this 'plan' was to not feel guilty about my food choices and actually eat food that I liked, not diet food
3) This plan should not bring out my obsessive dieting habits
4) If my current way of eating does not work, I will make adjustments accordingly

I think the biggest issue (atleast with me) is comparing my weight loss with others on the board, which shouldn't occur. Someone trying to lose 30+ lbs is more likely to lose more weight in the beginning than someone trying to lose 10lbs.

Also remember the other accomplishments made while NoSing, for instance:
-No snacking saves you money
-You enjoy your meals more and make more health conscious decisions
-Obsessing over calories, fat, fiber, protein, etc...is a thing of the past
-I'm more comfortable with eating meals with friends
-Neither my family or friends hear me complaining about my food options anymore
-I ACTUALLY ENJOY FOOD AGAIN!!!!! YAY!!!!

You are correct.

Some of my posts concern calorie information and may feel complicated to some,
but it is to bring home a common-sense point simple point that is incredibly important.

One must keep in mind, no matter what the food plan is:
Small women need to eat a lot less food than Large men.

Welcome!

Keeping it simple is very hard for some folks! I think you'll notice that much of the complexity here is the rest of us trying to talk them out of overcomplicating.

There are, of course, some very legitimate exceptions where extra complexity really is required. And if they seem more conspicuous here than they should be -- well, that's because strange and problematic situations are better fodder for conversation, and this is a discussion board, after all -- we have to discuss *something.* I admit it can be distracting, but I think that's just the nature of the beast. It's like Tolstoy's famous opening in Anna Karenina, "All happy families are alike, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
