Sun Tanning

Post by Over43 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 5:15 am

I have seen discussions regarding sun exposure and increased weight loss. Just can't remember where? Ahyone else, hear of or read about the relation? I know sun tanning increases vitamin D, and decreases depression. Although it is often accused of melonoma, peple who live in tropics get less colon cancer than people who live in the higher lattidudinal regions.

The Eades (of Protein Power fame), suggest that 20 minutes of sun front and back (buikding up to that time)- sun shine, not tanning beds- is very healthy.

I remember hearing/reading the same thing, but I can't remember where. I do think it was part of a discussion regarding vitamin D deficiency. Might have been a Jimmy Moore podcast?

Woman who live in sunny climates also experience less breast cancer.

I find it interesting that nearly all those long-lived and healthy people (Cretans, Ikarians, southern Italians, Okinawans, Tarahumara Indians of Mexico, Nicoyans of Costa Rica, and more that I can't remember right now) live in sunny climates and spend a great deal of time outdoors.

The Icelanders also experience low levels of depression and lower rates of other diseases and while they don't live in a sunny climate, they do eat lots of fish which are high in Vitamin D (cod liver oil, anyone?).
