Another newbie says hello

Hi everyone! My name is Kathy and I've just started the No S Diet.

I've been thinking for the past several years, watching the dieting madness in our culture, that when I was a little girl in the 1960's no one was fat! I've noticed it watching old news footage and also looking at old family photographs. My Mom had a movie star figure her whole life, and never ate low-fat anything. Nor did she jog or go to the gym.

What we did was eat 3 balanced meals a day, 1 moderate-sized helping of the various elements of the meal, no seconds, no snacks and maybe just a bite of something sweet after supper. Almost the No S diet to a T!!

About a year ago I wanted to lose 20 lbs. I started doing the "Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full" thing and lost 10 pounds. It also cured me of second helpings. Then I started doing the walk 10,000 steps a day program and lost another 10 pounds.

So, I don't really need to lose any more weight, but I was looking for an easy way to maintain my loss and stumbled across the No S Diet.
The "Eat when you're hungry" thing is better than dieting, but not always convenient. And I always felt a little hungry. It drove me crazy. I like to be comfortably full and not have to think about food again for 5 or 6 hours. So I think the No S Diet will be a perfect fit for me.

I've been reading your stories and look forward to taking with you guys.

Kathy

Kathy,

A while ago I was reading some women's magazines from the 50's and 60's and even back then there were articles harping on diet. However, like you noted, whenever I look at pictures from that era, there are few if any people who are as heavy as people are today. I wonder what they were fussing about!

Welcome!

I think No S is definitely a great maintenace program. It makes so much sense. It's nice to not have to think about food (other than planning what enjoyable meal you're going to eat next). I'm still working on breaking myself of the mentality of counting calories, so I'm hoping the longer I stay on No S, the freer I'll feel about food.
I only have a few pounds left to lose, myself (5 pounds, tops). I'm still working on tweaking my portion sizes and my S days, so that they're not as excessive, and I'm hoping that will help me lose the last few pounds.
