In Defense of Food

Michael Pollan's new book came out on Tuesday; I bought it on Tuesday and quickly read 2/3 of it but have slowed down greatly as I get closer to the end. I think I just don't want it to end!

Part I is is about Nutritionism and how it's failed us. Part II is about The Western Diet and diseases of civilization. Part III is about escaping nutritionism and the Western diet (and his recommendations for eating).

One reviewer at Amazon said that if you've read The Omnivore's Dilemma and his recent articles in The New York Times, you don't need to read this book. There's some truth to that, especially in his recommendations for how to eat. But there is information in the first two ssections that is new to me. Not only new to me, but new ways of thinking about science and nutrition as it applies to our diet.

Overall, I like the book and would recommend it.
"That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do. Not that the nature of the thing itself has changed but our power to do it is increased." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You are what you eat -- so don't be Fast, Easy, Cheap or Fake."
