Is anyone not losing weight

Post by Roosha » Thu Aug 20, 2009 4:26 pm

I started the No S Diet 2 months ago and I have faithfully not had any snacks, sweets or seconds during the week. I have not lost 1 pound on this diet. When I do eat my 3 meals during the week, I make sure that I have my fruit and protein with at least 2 of the 3 meals. I drink lots of water and I am trying to exercise at least 2-3 days a week.

I just don't understand by cutting out the sweets and snacks alone I have not lost any weight. Is anyone having the same problem?

Thanks!!

I haven't yet. I think part of it is because I have so little weight left to lose (5 pounds, tops), that my body is very stubbornly holding on to those last few pounds. Part of it, too, is because I left No S for awhile and just came back to it a few days ago. I know I also need to keep working on my S days, so that they're not as excessive.
It sounds like you're doing good things. What kind of exercising are you doing?

I am losing, although not quickly -- after the initial months when it came off faster, I have settled down to losing 1 1/2 pounds every month. Just a data point that it's not a hoax, people do lose on this!

I know that we are supposd to focus on the habit and on sane, healthy eating patterns rather than the scale, but no loss at all for that long must be frustrating. Some possibilities, which may or may not apply:

Are you actually overweight? If you're at a good weight for your body, No S isn't going to get you below that.
Try walking more, taking the stairs, building more exercise into your day?
Up your vegetable intake?
Are you drinking a lot of calories?
Have you had your thyroid checked recently, or could you have PCOS? Both make it very hard to lose weight.

There are a lot of factors to consider...
- how much you have to loose
- the size of your plate
- how high you fill your plate
- how active your daily life is
- thyroid health (I add this because I'm hypothyroid and it lowers metabolism)
- have you gained muscle weight? (I've gone through periods where my body adjusted)
- scale acuracy
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

I am not overweight but I could lose about 10 pounds because I am 5'4 and I currently weight 129. I try and walk/job 2-3 times a week and I go at least 3-4 miles. I am not a big eater. I usually have a whole grain bagel with an apple for breakfast (or sometimes cereal); lunch I have either a salad with lots of vegetables or lean turkey on whole grain bread with tomato and an avocado and dinner is your basic chicken because i don't eat meat. I don't eat between meals anymore like I was and I only eat sweets on the weekends and even then, I don't eat alot. I may have 1 thing that is a sweet on the S days. I just don't understand how I could cut that much out and not lose weight. Its very frustrating because this is an easy diet and doesn't take much to do! :(

General wisdom is that the less you have to lose, the more time it takes to lose it. Concentrate on the habits, not the scale.

Having said that, your body knows absolutely nothing about height/weight charts or ideal weight. It could be very happy where it is and struggling to stay there. It's possible you're already at your body's ideal weight.

Even though the scale doesn't register a loss, have you noticed if your body has changed shape or do your clothes fit differently?

I am on my second month of No-S and I really haven't changed much on the scales (I have about 20+ lbs. to lose), but I have pants from the beginning of the summer that were unbearably tight that fit me now and my shirts are looser around my shoulders, so SOMETHING is improving.

My weight goes all over the place depending on what I eat or drink. I think I've become more sensitive to salt than I used to be, so I am forced to find others ways to measure my progress. I also took measurements, but I think I'm losing inches in all the places I didn't measure. lol. How my clothes fit seem to be the best measurement for me.
