Diet books are like...
I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this but it came to me the other day that diet books are like energy bars and the like, at least for me. They make you think you're doing something good for yourself but don't really satisfy.
Then I saw a review that said that diet books were like painkillers, masking the real problems with eating.
From that I jumped to that diet books were like romance novels, and that romance novels are porn for women, so ipso facto, diet books are porn.

I agree with this. They are like a painkiller masking the real issue with eating certain foods in particular combinations at cetain times of day. A real red herring of distraction those books are. Then I saw a review that said that diet books were like painkillers, masking the real problems with eating.

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God… (Dt. 11:26-28.)

O don't always care to engage in anti diet "this or that", but it is ironic (I guess) that his thread appears just as I tried, last weekend to start "The Warrior Diet" for a change of pace.
In a nutshell it was just another take on low glycemic eating. Also the author claimsto have discovered the eating secrets of the great Greek and Roman warriors. The main meal is eaten later in the evening and very low acloric intake is practiced during the day.

Been there done this one too. I just wound up overeating badly at the one meal a day.Over43 wrote:O don't always care to engage in anti diet "this or that", but it is ironic (I guess) that his thread appears just as I tried, last weekend to start "The Warrior Diet" for a change of pace.

As an archaeologist, I'm always suspicious of diets that claim to have discovered some true ancient way of eating. Even the so-called Palaeo diet, which at least has the advantage of being plausible.
I mean, we've had decades of research and debate over what our ancestors ate, and how they obtained it. It's one of those debates that is never really going to be resolved, either, because the evidence has largely been destroyed through the passage of time. So how do these diet dudes come up with the answers? Do they have a time machine I could borrow...?
