"New" to NoS - An Introduction

I have known about NoS for over two years now (as you can probably see from my join date) but I have never posted in the forum-or any forum for that matter until now. After many false starts I have decided to try posting, hopefully it will help me stick with it. I know that this is the best plan around, it makes so much sense! I have been successfully NoSing since mid January, I think it is my longest run yet.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and also say thank you to everyone on this forum, I do read your posts quite often and find them helpful and motivating.

Hello Haley! I'm new too. I have lost 1.1 lbs after one week, and I am thrilled with that.

I'm also new to this. A week in. I tried it once and failed so I'm looking for this time to stick. Posting seems to be fun and helpful.

I had trouble getting going, had three good weeks, then went off, had three good weeks about 8 months later, then more failure for several months and finally got committed at 14 months. It's been 26 months now. It's great. Glad you've finally starting posting and glad that reading has helped.

You're strong enough to do this.

Posting does help for some reason. I am not sure why but I do better when I post my failures. Reinhard's new podcast offers a reasonable and interesting explanation.

I was reluctant to post my failure. I was even reluctant to mark it on the HabitCal, but did. It really doesn't make me feel bad. In fact, it kind of makes me laugh. A glaring Red square amid lots of success so far. I was able to see the successes outnumbered the failure. A good thing.

Oolala thanks for the support. I have two questions: A secret metric is a good idea. I won't ask how you figured it out, but I assume it is weight based.

And. . .what is "Vanilla No-S"?

'Vanilla' means plain old NoS rules with no tweaks or modifications - so strictly no snacks, sweets or seconds except (sometimes) on days that begin with 'S' :)

I'm new as well. Started this past Thursday - so really haven't had the full effect of 5 No S days in a row.

After dinner tonight, I didn't really want a 2nd mini Luna Bar - but thought I might as well since I'm not going to be eating sugar until next Saturday - makes a lot of sense, right?

This is such a great support system - glad there are other newbies who just started too.

Welcome KL. Well, you can eat that on an S Day. Tomorrow - do your best to not stray. I have the same challenge ahead of me tomorrow.

Well, KL, eventually, you wouldn't want to eat that 2nd bar just because you're not going to eat sugar again for several days, but it is common to do this for a few weeks or even months. Don't be afraid to let food go when you aren't really hungry for it on S days. They're the perfect days to eat less as well as more. You can always return to routine on N days to balance any effects.

Thanks for the comments, mcs and oolala. Yes, as I was opening the bar, I felt this nagging feeling of being controlled by the food. I have a tremendous feal of being hungry - that I will lose control. Well, it seems that I lose control even if I'm not hungry, go figure :)

For the past few years, I have not let myself eat substantial meals - never enough to go long periods of time without food. It takes more planning and not eating on the go to make sure I eat enough at each meal. It is the way I used to eat back in my 12-step days.

A saying that I used back in the day was: Fail to plan, plan to fail. It is so true for me now. My family benefits from me planning as well...
