Post by BrightAngel » Sat Jun 08, 2013 5:55 pm

A UCLA study released 5/27/13 validates the importance of Habit finding that:
....Healthy Habits die hard:
In times of stress, people lean on established routines – even healthy ones.
Developing good habits is more important than self-control in meeing goals.

Dovetails with what I've been reading about how the brain organizes groups of neurons into modules that drive behavior. A module that has been successful in the past is more likely to take the forefront in similar situations. If we take a new strategy consistently, a new module will form to drive that behavior.

I think it still takes willpower to get a track record on the new habit, though. But knowing the payoff can sure help with motivation to stick to it.
