tunes to shovel by
Hi everyone!
I have read several posts about music to shovel by...sounds like a great compilation CD...anyway I thought I would throw in my two cents. I usually shovel in the morning and since I'm up before the rest of the house it's just me and the hammer, but I got to have the house to myself and turned these guys on

My current selections
I picked out my music strictly based on time considerations (well, that plus the music had to be rockin'), which led me to two Queensryche tracks that clock in at just under 14 minutes: Suite Sister Mary and The Needle Lies, both off of Operation: Mindcrime. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... c&n=507846 for samples of the songs, should you be interested.) Mary keeps me going at a nice steady pace, and Needle cranks me up for the final few minutes of the routine.
Looking through my iTunes library, I'm wondering what else I could use... that swing idea's not bad, I could do some Cherry Poppin' Daddies... maybe a few Duran Duran tracks, nice and uptempo - ooh, Manowar, loud and fast, that could work! Maybe I'll end up building a few playlists, just to keep things fresh

Oh, here's a bright idea
Leverage the power of the Internets (and iTunes) and all...
We could start dumping iMix playlists into iTunes and tag them as shovelglove playlists. Not only would it be easier for the faithful to hear what our fellows are listening to, it might make for a bit of viral marketing to see the name spread further Any song you pick has to be available in the iTunes Music store for them to list it, but unless you're using speed glockenspiel music, it oughta be there.

Okay, just for experimentation's sake:

I tried to pick songs that had a good tempo for the routines, and they kinda sorta fit a theme. Let me know what you think

Funny you should mention this Zaren, I have always though glockenspiel stuff was really cool!Any song you pick has to be available in the iTunes Music store for them to list it, but unless you're using speed glockenspiel music, it oughta be there.
Speed Glockenspiel would be really weird!!!!! LOL!!!!!!
You be funny!
And so be your name!
Is it made up?
LOL...
Peace, Love and Music...
Deb
Who when she SG's uses the same song nearly every time
A 12 minute live version of Franklin's Tower, by the Grateful Dead...
Then 2 minutes of "whatever" as a cool down...
If you use the same songs I think it really helps... The Pavlov's Dog concept it really powerful!

Why not try the new demo from my band, Freakwitch? It's free. You can get oggs and mp3s at http://www.freakwitch.net/. This demo is a 7:20 montage of a half-dozen songs we recorded in recent rehearsals.
So, it's the perfect length, play it twice and you have your 14 minutes, minus a small startup and cooldown time.

Not to be trendy or anything, but one that really gets me wanting to shovelglove is Johnny Cash's "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer." It's almost visceral-I can be washing dishes and that song will come on and I'll want to pick up that 20#er.
I must be a little odd
I must be a little odd. (Yes - I hear that alot!)
I like to shug in the morning when it's nice and quiet. For me music would wreck the whole thing.
I like music in the evening as a relaxing time.

I've been shugging to foreign language podcasts/audiobooks, alternating between french, hebrew, and german. I count reps in the language I'm listening to. It's good practice because numbers come up a lot and are otherwise boring to practice and it's a very natural context. It's pretty automatic for me now to count in the language I'm hearing around me. The switch to another language mode, even apart from the particular content, is a good thing in itself to practice. Conversational podcasts are better than high art for shugging because after a few minutes I'm too exhausted to pay much attention -- though the background murmer is enough to keep me keep counting.
My German is good so I listen to a regular German podcast (I listen to a few, but this is the most regular):

My French is intermediate, so I listen to a wonderful French-learning podcast:

My Hebrew is pretty abominable, so I'm still on the "teach yourself" cd:

Hi everyone...
it's been a while since I posted but when the topic came back up I thought I would throw in my two cents (again)...
Since my work scheadule has changed I have been shugging in the early mornings so I have to agree with srbliss.
Although I just got Tom Petty's new album so I might be giving that one a try.
