Returning to SG today!

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

I wonder how the ol hammer's gonna feel after so much time away??
Probably heavy!!! LOL..
Definitely gonna go very mindfully with it for the first week..
My arms have become so flabby it's really getting me upset.. :x
Time for action yall!!
Raaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back! Good luck!

Amen to taking it easy. Remember that carving out the time is the hardest, most important part. Even if you just stand around half the 14 minutes with the sledgehammer in your hand you're making big progress in terms of habit.

"Even if you just stand around half the 14 minutes with the sledgehammer in your hand"

Thank you Rein! Yes I agree.. Infact those words were kinda rollin around in my head a few times earlier while I was working out.. Must have picked up on you there!
My first sesh yesterday was very good! I had quite a bit of weakness in my left arm but that's cos it's shamefully under exercised.
Whenever I felt like my arms were getting a little too noodley, I would switch to doing squats with the sledge laying on my back, and just let them rest a bit. Did 12 minutes of SG/squat stuff and then transitioned into about 10 mins of yoga asanas.. Then meditated.. The exercise is good preparation for relaxation so I think I'm going to, whenever possible, do my meditation after SG.
Even though today is an S day, I did my 14 mins again today.. I just didn't want to wait again till Monday because it was the first few times and I just really want to lay the groundwork here.. Instead of yoga at the end, I dragged Richie in and asked him to hold my legs down and my feet so I could start doing some situps!
Got to 20 and boy sweat was flying out of my eyelids! LOL..
Gonna keep up that habit too.. Felt good and I really really want my belly to stop looking like I am still pregnant!
I definitely had that "no pain no gain" post exercise soreness in, mainly my left arm, and took today very cautiously and interspersed squats whenever my arms felt like they might be getting too tired.
I'm very happy to be doing this again and no problem about making the time for it.. I waited till I was ready to do this 100 percent and I am not going to give up or stop this time.
SG is a very good mental upper for me too, so that's a terrific side effect!
Hope you are having a great day!

Okay *very* pleased to announce that after the initial breaking in of my old muscles in the first two workouts (which resulted in good ol soreness!), my muscles have successfully adapted to it and are very comfortably swinging this thang around like theres no tomorrow! haha!!
Woooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
The fourteen minutes went by like nothing
Also squeezed in 46 squats in two mini sets inbetween arm stuff, and at the end finished with 20 situps!
Again I say,,,
Woooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I was in a really sh#t mood all day and now I'm not!

I also feel the psychological up of keeping my commitment to this!
:D
One more green box on my HabitCal!
Woo woo!!!

Thanks yet again, Reinhard, for coming up with the brilliant idea of 14 minutes, because, once that nagging excuse machine voice starts inside and says "Come on,, just forget it for today.. It's too late,,," or "Just do it tomorrow", your other voice comes in and says "You are going to try and skip out on 14 measely minutes??? You can't possibly be that lame!! Come on, lets go!!!!!!!" LOL
Later guys!
Peace and Love,

Great work, Deb! I'm very happy to hear it.

In the past, I'd gotten a little cavalier about actually using the timer (I knew more or less how long I'd been shugging), but since baby #2 came along and I'm a sleep deprived zombie, I'm finding it enormously helpful again.

I think I'm going to do a podcast about a timer being the best piece of exercise equipment you can buy (even better than a sledgehammer, I think! -- though it's a close second).

Hah!! Thank you Reinhard!! I am glad too! :D

Sleep deprived??? With a newborn baby in the house???
Nooo!!! Really???
LOL

Well I actually don't use a timer because I hate the ticking sound, but I have a 12 minute long recording of the Grateful Dead doing "Franklins Tower" and then I just improvise for the last two minutes to whatever song comes on next on my player

Man today rrrrrrrrrrrrrocked!!!!!!!!
I did SG just before making dinner, because I had procrastinated all day doing other things..
Was really a good workout!!
And I doubled my squats!!! Did 2 sets of 30 this time round..
Aaaaaaaannd, I upped my situps from 20 to 25, doing the last five ultra slowly!
Wooooo!!!
I am determined to never have another person ask me if I am pregnant again, unless I am!!! (Which ain't happening anytime soon! LOL)
Phew I am so glad I got back into this!!!
I just can't believe I ever stopped!!!!
I'm never stopping again because the real problem is breaking the inertia..
Once you start it's really so fun and so awesome!!!
I'm down for life!!
We can trade stories in 10 years once you are not sleep deprived! LOL

But it's so easy to forget this once we are caught up in the inertia apathy mode.. This is a small enough time commitment with a physical and mental return that's totally, and I'd even say almost disproportionately, satisfying because one would never think that 14 minutes of anything could be this great (with perhaps a few obvious exceptions.. haha!)

Oh and after SG I was in such good spirits I went straight into my meditation for half hour.. Could have been more, but I'm getting hungry now and dinner awaits..

Seeya!
Peace and Love,

Yes it's fun!
Thank you Kayvan!
Was in a terrible mood today, and really sad..
But slowly went through it today and still came out feeling better and pleased with myself that I kept my commitment...

Ah thank you Rein! Always great to hear from you!
Hmm,, for some reason there was no indicator about this last post from you and just saw it today..
Yeah, though it's not at all perfect, I'm pretty pleased myself!
Though I gotta say, since I started SG again, I'm not losing weight.
I actually went up two pounds. I'm not surprised by this and also trying not to get psyched out, so I've added measuring myself back into the picture, to keep myself sane!
If I do take a day off from SG I count it as a failure, but really I have only done this on days I am very tired and sore, and feel I truly need the break. Most days have been great!
Hope you are well!
Peace and Love,
